  • Publication number: 20190335560
Abstract: A lighting device comprises an array of controllable light emitting pixels, each pixel having an adjustable light output colour. A controller is configured to receive a limited set of light output colours and to locally process these light output colours to form a colour gradient pattern to be displayed across pixels of the array.

  • Publication number: 20190254137
Abstract: An illumination source comprises an array of light-emitting elements for emitting illumination to illuminate an environment. A controller is arranged to control the illumination emitted by different ones of the light-emitting elements so as to form a spatial pattern, and to vary the spatial pattern according to a spatial dimming function whereby the spatial pattern is varied so as to emit a different overall intensity level as a function of a received dimming signal. A value is determined of at least one property relating to a manner in which the illumination source is deployed (e.g. the manner in which it is installed), and the spatial dimming function is set in dependence on the value of this property.

  • Publication number: 20190124745
Abstract: A lighting script—for use by a lighting controller to control at least one luminaire to render illumination effects, as the video content is outputted in a space illuminated by the at least one luminaire, synchronously with the outputting of the video content—is generated as follows. Frame image data of the video content is processed to determine at least one colour palette of the frame image data. A sequence of illumination effects—to be rendered during the outputting of the video content and which is modifiable by a user—is displayed to the user. The displayed sequence conveys at least one illumination colour derived from the determined colour palette to be rendered in at least one of the illumination effects. The generated lighting script is for rendering the modified sequence of illumination effects.

Abstract: A method of creating a lighting scene, the method comprising: receiving a still or moving input image; identifying one or more image segments within the input image (S22), including determining a shape of each of the one or more image segments (S23); determining a respective color and/or brightness level of each of the one or more identified image segments; determining a shape associated with each of a one or more luminaires present within the environment; matching the shape of each of the one or more identified image segments to the shape associated with a respective one of said luminaires or a respective group of the luminaires (S25); and for each respective of the one or more identified image segments, controlling the respective luminaire or group of luminaires to emit light with a color selected based on the color of the respective image segment and/or with a brightness level selected based on the brightness level of the respective image segment (S26).

  • Publication number: 20180376564
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling one or more lighting devices to generate a dynamic light effect based on an image. A first area in the image is selected based on first selection criteria (e.g. object recognition). Within this first area, a sequence of sub-areas (260, 262, 264) are selected based on second selection criteria (e.g. zooming in to a recognized object). Color values are extracted from each sub-area and the one or more lighting devices are controlled based on the extracted color values.

  • Publication number: 20180368236
Abstract: When a light scene comprises multiple colors of light, not all white light is suitable for matching the scene. A method is provided such that a white point is determined for each color in a set of colors, to create a set of white points. A single white point is then determined based on the set of white points. This allows, for example, a user to select a light scene (e.g. a romantic scene featuring red colors) for a living room, such that lighting devices contributing to the scene emit colored light. A functional lighting device (e.g. reading light) can then emit white light, determined according to the method, to provide more functional light (e.g. light suitable for reading) that matches the scene (e.g. warm white instead of cold white).

  • Patent number: 9325532
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting one or more symbols in a multiple antenna wireless communication system. Subcarriers from one or more symbols are interleaved across a plurality of antennas. The symbols may be, for example, long or short training symbols based on a single-antenna long or short training symbol, respectively, and wherein each subsequent subcarrier from the single-antenna training symbol is positioned in a training symbol for a logically adjacent antenna. One or more additional subcarriers may be inserted in at least one of the plurality of symbols to allow nulled subcarriers to be estimated using an interpolation-based channel estimation technique. The remaining portions of a header, as well as the data sequences of a packet, may also be diagonally loaded.

  • Patent number: 9014498
Abstract: The invention relates to a bit-plane coding method of signals, for example, an image or video signal in the DCT transform domain. The bit planes of the DCT blocks are transmitted bit-plane by bit-plane in order of significance. As each plane contains more signal energy than the lower significant layers together, the resulting bitstream is scalable in the sense that it may be truncated at any position. The later the bitstream is truncated, the smaller the residual error when the image is reconstructed. For each bit plane, a zone or partition of bit plane is created that encompasses all the non-zero bits of the DCT coefficients in that bit plane. The partition is created in accordance with a strategy that is selected from a number of options in dependence of the content of the overall signal and/or the actual bit plane. A different zoning strategy may be used for natural images than for graphic content, and the strategy may vary from bitplane to bitplane.

  • Patent number: 8503577
Abstract: In a wireless system including a wireless communication channel, a method for estimating a signal quality of a received signal includes the steps of receiving a signal from the wireless communication channel, the received signal including at least one field that is modulated and encoded in a substantially fixed manner, and generating at least one reference field based, at least in part, on the at least one field and on a channel estimation signal. The channel estimation signal is representative of at least one characteristic of the wireless communication channel. The method further includes the step of generating a signal quality estimate as a function of the at least one field in the received signal and the generated at least one reference field.

  • Patent number: 8451815
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for a first coordinator operating at a first channel frequency in a wireless personal area network (WPAN), the WPAN further comprising a second coordinator operating a second channel frequency, the method comprising the steps of transmitting a message at a plurality of channel frequencies including the second channel frequency, requesting the second coordinator to change from the second channel frequency to the first channel frequency, and communicating with the second coordinator using the first channel frequency. As discussed above, advantages with the present invention includes that no priority based mechanism is needed due to the fact that the coordinator that initiates (e.g. starts) communication-decides on used frequency. Furthermore, every coordinator is able to have the coordinator it wants to communicate with to change to its decided frequency.

  • Patent number: 8042145
Abstract: This invention relates to controlling the power states in a multimedia system comprising a multimedia connector box including a multimedia source interconnected to a transmitter module, and a multimedia device including a receiver module interconnected to a multimedia sink, wherein the transmitter and the receiver modules interface the multimedia connector box and the multimedia device via multimedia interfacing means. A signal detector detects the signal activity between the power sources of the multimedia system for determining the current power state of the power sources, and a power switching mechanism adapts the power states of the transmitter and receiving modules to the power states of the power sources.

  • Patent number: 8014267
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for transmitting symbols in a multiple antenna wireless communication system, such that the symbols can be interpreted by a lower order receiver (i.e., a receiver having a fewer number of antennas than the transmitter). For example, subcarriers from one or more symbols can be transmitted such that each of the subcarriers are active on only one of the antennas at a given time. In one implementation, the subcarriers are diagonally loaded across logically adjacent antennas. The symbols can include one or more long training symbols and optionally a SIGNAL field that indicates a duration that a receiver should defer until a subsequent transmission. In this manner, a transmitter in accordance with the present invention may be backwards compatible with a lower order receiver and a lower order receiver can interpret the transmitted symbols or defer for an appropriate duration.
