Abstract: A device such as a flexible LCD is described comprising first and second layers wherein the first layer is a flexible substrate and the second layer is a brittle ITO conduction line applied to the substrate. The ITO layer is substantially flat and meanders across the plane of the flexible substrate so as to prevent fracture of the ITO layer when the flexible substrate is deformed. The ITO layer may be subdivided into portions, the length of the portions being selected to prevent fracture when the flexible substrate is deformed to a predetermined radius of curvature.

Abstract: A (display) device (31,4,5) contains multiple panels (3,7) like e.g. displays. Every display can be used to display its own content and can be rolled out of a sub-housing (5) like e.g. a cartridge separately. In different configurations the same cartridge can be arranged in such a way that the panels are used for a separate functionality or multiple display panels form one big screen.

Abstract: A matrix array display device (100) is mounted on a flexible substrate (110) such as a polyimide substrate, and has a plurality of first conductors (120) crossing a plurality of second conductors (130), with a plurality of pixels (140) being located in the vicinity of a crossing between a first conductor (120) and a second conductor (130). The display device (100) includes a flexible shift register (150) and an optional further flexible shift register (160) for addressing the first conductors (120). The flexible shift register (150), which preferably is realized using organic semiconductor materials, occupies a smaller area of the flexible substrate (110) than for instance a bus structure, thus increasing the effective display area of the display device (100).

Abstract: A display system makes use of removable or detachable display panels (10, 14), which are preferably rollable, such as cartridges which can be discarded after the display stops functioning. The actual display has a two part housing (4,5), one of which contains the removable or detachable display panel. This housing (4) contains electronics like a battery, input devices (buttons, joystick), a radio frequency (RF) antenna and chips and possibly memory and processors. The other housing (5) contains the display panel (14) or substrate (10). If the display panel (14) or substrate (10) tears, which is not unlikely for flexible, thin, displays, only the panel has to be replaced and not the complete device.

Abstract: The invention relates to a display device assembly (1) comprising a flexible display device (2) being rollable around an axis (5), the flexible display (2) having a front side (3) and a back side (4), one of the sides (3,4) being provided with distance elements (7, 7?,80) for preventing a direct contact between the front side (3) and the back side (4). By preventing the front and back side to contact each other the amount of display damage is significantly reduced as compared to conventional roll-up displays. An advantageous embodiment comprises a display device assembly in which the spacer elements are shaped in the form of bars (7, 7?). In a further advantageous embodiment of the display assembly the distance elements comprise a protection foil (80).

The total value present in the register (1) can be determined by reading out all papers of value that are present at a moment, and by repeating this if desired. The register (1) may be portable, such as a wallet. The paper of value (4) with an integrated circuit (40) and antenna may also be a sales slip.
