  • Publication number: 20110083619
Abstract: A heat exchange assembly for generating steam from a second medium to be used to drive a steam turbine for generating electricity or for other process, includes a tube having a longitudinal axis and an inner wall and an outer wall. The outer wall includes a plurality of spaced fins oriented generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The inner wall defines a preheat zone and a dual phase zone. The preheat zone defines a helical rib configured to provide swirling motion and increase heat transfer surface area to liquid entering the tube increasing heat transfer from the tube to the liquid. The dual phase zone is spaced from the preheat zone and defines a helical rib configured to provide swirling motion to steam and liquid passing through the dual phase zone increasing heat transfer from the tube to the steam and liquid while preventing vapor stagnation and film boiling.

  • Publication number: 20090301699
Abstract: A shell and tube heat exchanger, such as a vertical combined feed/effluent heat exchanger (VCFE), including: a shell having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet; a plurality of baffles mounted in the shell to guide the fluid into a helical flow pattern through the shell; wherein a helix angle ? of a baffle proximate the inlet is different than a helix angle ? of a baffle proximate the outlet.

  • Patent number: 6827138
Abstract: A heat exchanger is configured to have quadrant shaped baffles positioned at an angle to a longitudinal axis of shell for guiding cross-flow of fluid into a helical pattern while maintaining substantially uniform velocity of the cross-flow.

  • Patent number: 5425415
Abstract: A vertical heat exchanger including a vertical tube bundle connected between a lower inlet manifold and upper outlet manifold. The tube bundle comprises numerous pairs of concentric tubes with the inner tube being spaced from the outer tube to form an annular flow passage positioned around an inner flow passage. The inner tubes are welded between outer tube sheets that form a part of the upper and lower manifolds while the outer tubes are welded between inner tube sheets forming part of these manifolds. Each of the manifolds has a distributor ring which has radially directed openings throughout its periphery so as to provide for a radial flow in the manifold. Fluid enters the lower manifold through suitable inlet nozzles and exits the upper manifold through suitable outlet nozzles. A high temperature heating gas is directed up through the inner tubes of each pair of tubes by a conical inlet distributor and exits the upper end of the tube bundle through a similar conical distributor.

  • Patent number: 5386871
Abstract: A heat storage apparatus is disclosed providing a vertical tube bundle arrangement in a vessel containing a heat storage medium. The tube bundle is divided into modular sector-shaped units each having a radial distribution manifold at the bottom and top with each radial distribution manifold having a plurality of perpendicular secondary manifolds to which the heat exchange tubes are attached. The modular units are supported on radial beams which support the units by the secondary manifolds. Alternate means may be used to feed the fluid through the tubes.

  • Patent number: 5253703
Abstract: A heat exchanger adapted to handle dusty hot waste gases including a vertically oriented shell through which the waste gases flow longitudinally downward. The shell contains a tube assembly of vertical tubes having external, longitudinal heat transfer fins with the tubes being connected for fluid flow and support of their upper and lower ends to a central vertical support/header assembly. This support/header assembly is a tube divided into an upper header, a lower header and a center support tube section.
