  • Patent number: 9409762
Abstract: Provided are nozzles useful for controllably transferring any fluid including without limitation liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels from a first reservoir to a second reservoir. Dispensing nozzles as provided herein have several advantages, including increased control by the technician who is transferring the fluids over the nozzle itself by virtue of greater physical control and less operator fatigue. In addition, a small amount of force applied to the dispensing lever results in a relatively large opening of the control valve mechanism. Further, when line pressure is zero or near zero, it is not possible for un-metered fluid leakage to occur, which provides cost advantages to large volume vendors of liquids such as hydrocarbon fuels which are dispensed on a routine basis, such as at airports. Safety is also greatly enhanced, since latent quantities of fuel cannot flow out from lines equipped with the nozzles provided when supply lines are not pressurized.

  • Publication number: 20130263970
Abstract: Provided herein are complementary couplers useful in providing a coupling through which liquids may be transferred from a first storage reservoir or tank to a second storage reservoir or tank, which can be an on-board fuel tank of a motorized vehicle. There is provided a first coupling which is configured to be in fluid communication with the interior of a vehicle's fuel tank, and a second coupling which is intended to be in fluid communication with the contents of a remote fuel storage reservoir. The disclosure also includes a process for charging a fuel reservoir on board of a motorized vehicle from a remote reservoir, wherein the vapor in the fuel reservoir is displaced by an equal volume of fuel delivered from said remote reservoir, and wherein the vapor in said fuel reservoir is simultaneously caused to be transferred to said remote reservoir, thus permitting no escape of the vapor from said fuel reservoir to the surrounding atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 7182098
Abstract: Provided herein are couplings useful in the transfer of liquid fuels from a remote storage reservoir to an on-board fuel tank of a motorized vehicle. There is provided a first coupling which is adapted to be in fluid communication with the interior of a vehicle's fuel tank, and a second coupling which is intended to be in fluid communication with the contents of a remote fuel storage reservoir. The invention also includes a process for charging a fuel reservoir on board of a motorized vehicle from a remote reservoir, wherein the vapor in the fuel reservoir is displaced by an equal volume of fuel delivered from said remote reservoir, and wherein the vapor in said fuel reservoir is simultaneously caused to be transferred to said remote reservoir, thus permitting no escape of the vapor from said fuel reservoir to the surrounding atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4328844
Abstract: A pressure fueling adapter for aircraft has spring loaded primary and secondary nested poppets for controlling fluid flow therethrough, the primary poppet operable by engagement with the position lever of a fuel nozzle and the secondary poppet responsive to pressure differentials to allow inlet fluid flow and check back flow. A cam interengagement mechanism may be manually actuated to connect the primary and secondary poppets for simultaneous movement by the position lever of the fuel nozzle to defeat the secondary poppet check, for defueling purposes.

  • Patent number: 4312373
Abstract: An internal valve for the bottom loading of fuel tanks consists of a differential area piston acting within a chamber which is vented by a pair of pilot valves responsive to fluid level, to provide full open, throttled and closed positions of the valve automatically in response to inlet fluid pressure. Soft closure of the inlet valve which is formed of the piston head and a seat in the valve housing, is provided by metered fluid flow through an orifice between a sized aperture in the piston head and a restrictor sleeve carried on a tank vent actuator bar extending through the aperture and through the valve housing. A lost motion connection between the piston head and actuator bar allows limited relative movement for controlling the metering orifice and combined movement for coincident opening of the tank vent in response either to inlet fluid pressure or manual actuation.

  • Patent number: 4266574
Abstract: A system for filling and emptying a fluid storage tank includes an air pressure source 11, a vent valve 12, and a fill valve 14. The vent valve 12 includes first and second housing portions 23 and 24 and a main valve member 18. A coil spring 20 acts between the second housing portion 24 and a valve stem 19 to close the main valve member 18 and to bias the housing portions 23 and 24 together. A piston 21 cooperates with the second housing portion 24 to define an expansible chamber 39, and air pressure from the source 11 enters the chamber 39 to move the piston 21 and open the main valve member 18. A secondary valve member 40 isolates the fill valve 14 from the air pressure source 11 until the main valve member 18 is opened, and then communicates air pressure to the fill valve 14 to open the fill valve 14 and permit filling or emptying the tank.
