    Abstract: A tow/release mechanism or towplate usable inter alia for controlling the initiation of a parachute extraction sequence in a cargo carrying aircraft--including operation capability while loaded with forces in the range of 70,000 lbs. The disclosed mechanism includes in-floor mounting, magnetic "armed" indication, and high structural integrity. Low-friction bearings are excluded from the mechanism, while compatibility with existing equipment parachute links, and use of hydraulic actuation are included. The disclosed mechanism is incorporatable in plural locations in the rearward portion of an aircraft and usable with either high altitude parachute cargo extraction or low altitude parachute extraction systems (LAPES); a typical LAPES sequence is also disclosed.
