  • Patent number: 11180578
Abstract: Described are compositions and methods for inhibiting polymerization of a monomer (e.g., styrene) composition, which use an N—O polymerization inhibitor, a quinone methide polymerization retarder, and an amine stabilizer having a primary and/or secondary amine group. In a mixture, the amine-based stabilizer can prevent antagonistic effects and can provide greater antipolymerant activity. In turn, the mixture inhibits apparatus fouling and improves the purity of monomer streams.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 12, 2019
Date of Patent: November 23, 2021
    Assignee: Ecolab USA Inc.
Inventors: Jonathan Masere, Andrew R. Neilson, Bassam Alnasleh, Ramon Colorado, Jr.

  • Publication number: 20180282166
Abstract: A precursor having at least five percent of lignin based coke and d002 spacing of more than 3.36 angstroms and less 3.44 for making graphite. Methods for making a green/graphite article include mixing coke derived from a petroleum product, a coal product or a bitumen product with coke derived from lignin. Alternatively, the precursor material for the various types of coke may be mixed and coked together. The mixture may be formed into a desired shape. The article may be subsequently carbonized and graphitized. The amount of lignin derived coke comprises a sufficient quantity to change at least a selected property of the graphite article.

  • Patent number: 9758905
Abstract: A method of making a carbon fiber comprising esterification of a lignin precursor with an acid, acid anhydride, or acyl halide, thereby forming a reduced Tg lignin. Mixing the reduced Tg lignin with a carbon residue selected from the group of coal based raw material, petroleum based raw material and combinations thereof, thereby forming a fiber precursor mixture; and spinning the fiber precursor mixture into a fiber. A method of making a carbon fiber comprising esterification of a lignin with an acid derivative, thereby forming a reduced Tg lignin. Mixing the reduced Tg lignin with a pitch, thereby forming a fiber precursor mixture; and spinning the fiber precursor mixture into a fiber. A method of making a carbon fiber comprising lowering the Tg of a lignin material, thereby forming a reduced Tg lignin. Mixing the reduced Tg lignin with a carbon residue, thereby forming a fiber precursor mixture and spinning the fiber precursor mixture into a fiber.

  • Patent number: 9683313
Abstract: A method of making a carbon fiber includes heat treating a lignin precursor absent an active ingredient in an inert atmosphere to raise the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the precursor by at least five (5%) percent, forming a lignin precursor having an increased Tg (High Tg Lignin). The High Tg Lignin can be spun into a fiber. The fiber may then be stabilized to form a thermoset fiber. The time period for stabilizing the fiber is less than one hundred (100) hours.
