Patent number: 8436693Abstract: A method to track and control the resonance frequency of a band-pass filter provides a solution for the sensitivity limitations against temperature and process variations. A phase sensing module obtains the phase difference between the input and output and a negative feed-back control architecture can be used to tune the filter's resonance over the input RF frequency.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2007Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: ST-Ericsson SAInventors: Bassem Fahs, Patrick A. Patent number: 8427388Abstract: Symmetrical eight-shaped balun (BALanced-to-UNbalanced converter) comprising a first and second eye, each eye comprising conducting tracks forming turns. The eyes comprise an equal number of primary turns that form a first conducting path from a first terminal to a second terminal, in which in operation electrical current flows in a first direction in a first eye and in a second direction in a second eye. Moreover, the eyes further comprise an equal number of secondary turns that form a second conducting path from a third terminal to a fourth terminal, in which in operation electrical current flows in a first direction in a first eye and in a second direction in a second eye. The geometrical and electrical middle points of primary and secondary turns are all superposed and further are located in the same plane.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2010Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: ST-Ericsson SAInventors: Bassem Fahs, Lionel Guiraud, Hendrik Visser

Patent number: 8183971Abstract: In a first aspect, the invention provides to a device comprising a substrate and an electrical conductor arranged between two terminals (A, B) and shaped for forming an inductor comprising at least two loops (1, 2) and arranged such that, at least locally, the far field is reduced. This arrangement results in an inductor which radiates a smaller magnetic field, also referred to as reduced EMI, which results in less noise generated in other inductive parts of an electronic circuit or system. The invention further provides in an advantageous embodiment proper balancing of the parasitic resistance and capacitance. By doing so the physical mid-point of 8-shaped inductors becomes the electrical mid-point (MP) which is beneficial when the inductor is used in a circuit.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2009Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: NXP B.V.Inventors: Yann Le Guillou, Bassem Fahs

Patent number: 8044756Abstract: The present invention provides a programmable integrated inductor having a compact design, having a dual turn and a parallel programmable impedance. In particular, the impedance value of the programmable changes, like a variable, programmable, as its range may be set to an unlimited number of values. The invention, thus, provides a wider range of programmable values without compromising space, at a constant equivalent given inductor area.Type: GrantFiled: July 4, 2007Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: ST-Ericsson SAInventor: Bassem Fahs
