  • Publication number: 20070099735
Abstract: A transmission system (1), for instance of a bicycle, is described, comprising a drive wheel (2), a driven wheel (3), and a coupling chain (4) having a first chain half (4C) and a second chain half (4D). The transmission system is provided with a measuring device (6) for providing a measurement signal which is representative for the torque transmitted by the coupling chain (4). This measuring device (6) comprises a transverse force sensor arranged within the span of the coupling chain (4) in the form of a wheel (10) rotatably mounted on a supporting arm (20), which wheel touches the first chain half (4C) and the second chain half (4D). The measuring device provides a measurement signal which is a measure for the component (Fv), directed substantially perpendicular to the plane (L) defined by the rotation axes of the drive wheel (2) and the driven wheel (3), of the resultant (FDR) of the transverse forces (FDC, FDD) exerted to the sensing wheel (10) by the chain halves (4C, 4D).

  • Patent number: 5545100
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission comprises a sun wheel (11, 66) and at least one planet wheel (3, 65) having a double, essentially conical surface (30, 31, 64, 71, 72), which planet wheel (3, 65) interacts on one side with the sun wheel (11, 66) and on the other side with an annulus wheel (2, 73), as well as adjusting structure (5, 6, 16) for changing the transmission ratio. Each planet wheel (3, 65) is provided with an intermediate wheel (9, 59) which interacts on one side with the sun wheel (11, 66) and on the other side with the planet wheel (3, 65). Each planet wheel (3, 65) and, where appropriate, intermediate wheel (9, 59) is also adjustable about an imaginary axis which runs transversely to the centre line of the sun wheel (11, 66), such that each planet wheel (3, 65) can be brought into positions with respect to the annulus wheel (2, 59) in which they can roll with respect to one another so as to describe a helical path.

  • Patent number: 5545105
Abstract: To obtain a flexible transmission system which can be adjusted to the meet the individual desires of a driver, the choice of the desired value of the rate of revolution of the primary axle in the system, based on the current position of an accelerator pedal, and based on the current rate of revolution of the secondary axle of the system, is influenced, whereby several sub ranges are composed from the range of possible desired rate of revolution values of the primary axle, so that the possible positional values of the accelerator pedal can be combined with one of the sub ranges, to choice. A sub range preferably serves as a model for a desired type of driving program. If desired, the boundary values of the sub range can be continuously adjusted through the use of potentiometers which are operated by the driver. To assist in the realization of a simple-to-implement digital construction, the sub range values are stored in a memory.

  • Patent number: 5431602
Abstract: An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission system is provided with a driving belt trained over a primary and secondary pulley. The primary pulley is provided on a primary shaft and the secondary pulley is provided on a secondary shaft. Each pulley has corresponding spaced, conical pulley halves and at least one of the corresponding pulley halves is axially movable by respective primary and secondary moving devices. The transmission further includes a primary electronic control system for controlling the transmission ratio and a secondary electronic control system for controlling the belt tension. The primary electronic control system permits the operator to select from fuel economy, sporting, and maximum comfort performance modes. The primary electronic control means controls the transmission ratio in accordance with the performance mode selected. The moving devices include standby operating valves to permit continued operation of the transmission in case of power failure.

  • Patent number: 5366416
Abstract: In a continuously variable transmission which is provided with a primary pulley and a secondary pulley, between which a driving belt is mounted, primary and secondary control systems, which are coupled to the respective pressure chambers of the axially translatable pulley discs, are employed to precipitate current pressure values, in dependence upon desired pressure values. To this end, the control system employs a regulator to which only the difference between the desired and the measured pressure-value is supplied, whereby the regulator nevertheless only has to regulate the relatively rapidly changing variation in a rest value supplied separately by a rest state device. This greatly improves the dynamic behaviour of the controller, so that rapid variations in the desired value of the entrant pressure can be effectively followed by the control system.

  • Patent number: 5013283
Abstract: In a continuously variable transmission with a pulley having discs (1, 2) wherebetween a driving belt (12) runs, at least one of the discs is movable for influencing the transmission ratio of the transmission. The moveable disc (1; 2) being mounted on a shaft (3), by support members (5; 7; 16, 18; 20, 21) possibly formed eccentrically relative to the shaft (3).The support members take up the forces exerted by the driving belt (12) close to the point of application of the forces, so that in particular the movable pulley disc may be constructed less rigid, with a smaller mass and at a reduced cost price.
