Abstract: A network-based approach for converting a first type of data into a second type of data. The first type of data can be sent by an originating network-user to a remote service platform connected to a telecommunications network. Data conversion from the first to the second data types takes place at the remote service platform. The originating network-user can address a receiving network-user to whom the second type of data can be sent. The receiving network-user receives the second type of data as a data stream. The originating network-user can also associate the first type of data with an electronic file. The receiving network-user receives the electronic file together with the data stream. With the functionality of the service platform), network users are able to create and distribute a certain type of data without the required conversion facilities being locally available.
