    Abstract: Analysis of a breath sample is a noninvasive point-of-care tool with ever increasing clinical applicability. Herein we describe a method to analyze the content of low-level, trace volatile organic compounds from alveolar breath captured as a breath sample from a patient suspected of having a fatty liver disease. The breath sample is then analyzed using a gas phase analysis methodology, such as gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (“GCMS”), to generate an analysis result, such as a GCMS spectrum. A computer system is then used to develop a fingerprint pattern from the analysis result. The fingerprint pattern is then used to determine a patient status for the patient. The fingerprint pattern is typically a grouping of 75 to 450 compounds of known concentration which are indicative of a particular fatty liver disease.

    Abstract: In a method for connecting components during production of power electronics modules or assemblies, surfaces of the components have a metallic surface layer upon supply, or are furnished therewith, wherein the layer has a surface that is smooth enough to allow direct bonding or is smoothed to obtain a surface that is smooth enough to allow direct bonding. The surface layers of the surfaces that are to be connected are then pressed against each other with a pressure of at least 5 MPa at elevated temperature, so that they are joined to each other, forming a single layer. The method enables simple, rapid connection of even relatively large contact surfaces, which satisfies the high requirements of power electronics modules.

    Abstract: Engine combustion phasing control techniques utilize a trained feedforward artificial neural network (ANN) to model both base and maximum brake torque (MBT) spark timing based on six inputs: intake and exhaust camshaft positions, mass and temperature of an air charge being provided to each cylinder of the engine, engine speed, engine coolant temperature. The selected target spark timing could be adjusted based on a two-dimensional surface having engine speed and air charge mass as inputs. The target spark timing adjustment could be performed only during an initial period when the trained ANN is immature. The ANN could also be trained using dynamometer data for the engine that is artificially weighted for high load regions where accuracy of spark timing is critical.
