  • Patent number: 12633311
Abstract: A tape cartridge reel comprises an upper flange, a lower flange, and a hollow cylinder hub between the upper flange and the lower flange. The upper flange has an upper opening at an upper end of the hollow cylinder hub. A hollow cylinder stiffener is positioned within the hollow cylinder hub. An inner surface is formed within the hollow cylinder hub and the hollow cylinder stiffener and extends from the upper end of the hollow cylinder hub to the lower end of the hollow cylinder hub. The inner surface forms a hollow space delimited by a surface of revolution with circular cross sections of different diameters.

  • Publication number: 20260004806
Abstract: A write chip comprising an array of write transducers and writer bond pads is obtained, each write transducer of the array of write transducers connected to a pair of bond pads of the writer bond pads via electrically conducting signal wires, the write chip comprising a write notch. A read chip comprising an array of read transducers and reader bond pads is obtained, each read transducer of the array of read transducers connected to a pair of bond pads of the reader bond pads via electrically conducting signal wires, the read chip comprising a read notch. The read chip and the write chip are secured together such that a distance between the write transducer array and the read transducer array is less than 100 microns, an orientation of the write notch exposes the reader bond pads, and an orientation of the read notch exposes the writer bond pads.

  • Publication number: 20250308557
Abstract: A moveable tape support assembly. The assembly includes a frame that is moveable, and at least a first roller and a second roller are attached to the frame and are each free to rotate about an axis, and the first roller is in close proximity to the second roller. The frame is moveable in order for the first roller and the second roller to contact a first side of a tape and move the tape in order to have a second side of the tape to contact a head that is adapted for reading data from the tape or writing data to the tape.

  • Publication number: 20250308555
Abstract: A tape head module and tape guide assembly. The assembly includes a tape head module that is adapted for reading data from tape or writing data to the tape. The assembly further includes a first tape support guide and a second tape support guide that are positioned on opposite sides of the tape head module and in close proximity to the tape head module and adapted to provide a short and stiff portion of the tape located near the tape head module and provide a stable interface between the tape head module and the tape.

  • Patent number: 12367901
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, device, system, and method for compensating for a nonlinear deformation field of a tape of a tape storage system. In one embodiment, a head beam of a tape head module of a tape drive employing active skew-based TDS compensation, is segmented into linear segments which are pivotally coupled to each other. Each linear beam segment carries a portion of the transducer array of the tape head module to form a tape head module segment. The pivot angle between a pair of pivotally coupled head module segments of the tape head may be controlled by a controllable pivot actuator to provide an independently adjustable skew angle for each module segment with respect to the direction of travel of tape. As a result, it is believed that registration between the transducers of each module segment and data tracks of the tape may be improved.

  • Patent number: 11360789
Abstract: Methods are provided for configuring a reconfigurable hardware device to execute a user application. Such a method includes providing static shell logic on the device. The static shell logic is controlled by a primary management core for managing operation of the device, and has a predetermined hardware interface. The method includes configuring on the device, via the primary management core, dynamic shell logic for implementing dynamically-selected shell functionality. The dynamic shell logic includes a secondary management core, adapted to communicate with the primary management core via the hardware interface, for managing operation of the dynamic shell logic. The method further comprises configuring on the device, via the primary management core, application logic, having an interface with the dynamic shell logic, for executing the user application. The secondary management core uploads to the primary management core dynamic code to adapt the primary management core for use with the dynamic shell logic.
