  • Publication number: 20040020410
Abstract: The invention concerns a pigment, filler or mineral containing a natural calcium carbonate, treated with one of more providers of H3O+ ions and gaseous CO2, allowing a reduction in the weight of paper for a constant surface area without loss of physical properties when it is used as a pigment or coating filler for the said paper. In particular, the invention concerns a pigment, filler or mineral containing a natural calcium carbonate or dolomite or mixtures of talc and calcium carbonate, of kaolin and carbonate or carbonate alone or in combination with natural and/or synthetic fibres or similar, treated with one or more medium-strong or strong providers of H3O+ ions in the presence of gaseous CO2.

Applications are particularly in the paper industry, obtaining in particular good sheet properties i.e. a reduction its weight for a given surface area.

  • Patent number: 4693385
Abstract: A sterilization-resistant, sealed glass container is produced by providing the rim of the glass container with a thermoplastic coating of a baking varnish and then heat-sealing an aluminum/polypropylene composite film on to said coating. The rim of the glass container may, optionally, be pretreated with an adhesion promotor before the baking varnish is applied.

  • Patent number: 4673601
Abstract: A cold- or heat-sealable composite film comprises a permanently adhesive layer which is applied to a carrier film and which, on the side facing away from the carrier film, has a covering layer of a material having a low elongation at break and low tear propagation strengths. If the covering layer is not itself cold- or heat-sealable, it is provided with an appropriate cold- or hot-sealing layer. The composite film can be used as a closing membrane for preformed containers or can itself be formed as a container.

  • Patent number: 4447184
Abstract: A heatable sealing head comprises a resiliently yielding pressure element and has at least one cup spring. The pressure element serves to transmit pressure and heat to a closure lid insertable between the sealing head and the rim of a container, this lid to be deformed about portions of the container rim. In the relaxed normal position, the sealing head includes a conical contact surface for the closure lid. The contact surface can be resiliently bent back against the pressure of the rim of the container mouth. The metallic closure lid is provided with thermoplastic material on the side facing the container rim. For the purpose of improving the fixing of the closure lid to the container rim, the contact surface of the pressure element projects increasingly radially inward starting from the sealing head.

  • Patent number: 4437292
Abstract: A heatable sealing head includes resilient, yielding cup springs which transmit pressure and heat to a thin cover insertable between the sealing head and the container rim. This cover, which may be metallic and is coated on the underside with a thermoplastic material, is thereby deformed about portions of the container rim. The cup springs are disposed conically in their relaxed state so that their radially outer portions are situated closer to the cover than their radially inner portions, by which they are fixed to the sealing head. For increasing the flexibility of the cup springs, a spacer piece is inserted between an outer cup spring facing the cover and at least one cup spring nearer the sealing head in order to keep the radially inner portions of these two cup springs spaced from one another while leaving a clearance space between the radially outer portions of the spaced cup springs.
