    Abstract: The yarn brake includes a rigid brake element and a thin flexible metal foil brake element. Controllable electromagnets are provided for moving the metal foil towards the rigid brake element and for varying the braking force of the yarn brake. During braking, the yarn is braked gently over a relatively long length while the metal foil deforms about the yarn.
