Abstract: The invention relates to methods for typing a sample of an individual suffering from a colorectal cancer, or suspected of suffering therefrom. A preferred sample is stool. The invention further relates to methods for determining a level of expression of at least two extracted protein expression molecules in stool, based on the quantified reaction products, and to methods of assigning treatment to an individual that was typed as suffering from colorectal cancer according to the invention.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for screening for colorectal cancer, the method comprising: screening a biological sample from an individual for one or more biomarkers selected from the group defined in Table 1 and/or Table 6, wherein the presence of or increased expression of the one or more biomarkers relative to a control sample is indicative that the individual is at risk of suffering from or is suffering from colorectal cancer. The invention also provides an array and kit suitable for use in the methods of the invention, methods of treating colorectal cancer and therapeutic agents for use in methods of treating cancer.

Abstract: Using a combination of analytic methods epigenetic silencing of markers in cancer have been determined. The cancers are generally those of the gastrointestinal tract including but not limited to esophageal, head and neck, gastric, pancreas, liver, and colon. The genes can be used for the early detection of cancer or can be used to identify adenomas that will likely progress to carcinomas. Therapeutic regimens based on the epigenetic silenced genes can be chosen and/or monitored. Kits for evaluating epigenetic silencing of these genes can be used for detection and monitoring.

Abstract: The present invention relates to in vitro methods and compositions for diagnosing and/or treating a colorectal adenocarcinoma associated with a chromosomal aberration on chromosome 20q and/or the predisposition for developing such an adenocarcinoma by determining the expression levels of a set of particular marker genes, wherein an elevated expression level of the marker genes in a test sample as compared to a control level is indicative of a colorectal adenocarcinoma.

The present invention fine-maps the regions of chromosomal aberrations linked to progression of adenomas into adenocarcinoma cells and provides methods and tools for detection based thereon.
