Abstract: Embedded Media Markers (EMM) are optical-filter-like overlaid marks that can be printed on a part of a paper document that signify the existence of media associated with that part of the document. Users take a picture of an EMM-signified document patch using a cell phone camera, and the media associated with the EMM-signified document location is retrieved and displayed on the phone. Unlike bar codes, EMMs are nearly transparent and thus do not interfere with the document contents. Retrieval of media associated with an EMM is based on image local features of the captured EMM-signified document patch. A semi-automatically technique places an EMM at a location in a document, in such a way that the EMM encompasses sufficient identification features with minimal disturbance to the original document.

The digital document includes a plurality of content channels providing primary content continuously in a looping manner and at least one supplementary channel on a single page. The supplementary channel is configured to provide supplementary content upon the occurrence of an event during playback of the document. Channel content may include video, text, images, 3D content, web page content, audio and any other suitable content. In addition to media content, a channel may contain interactive regions in the form of hot spots, and interactive mapping regions, and other interactive features. The codument can utilize a stage layout having at least one channel to present media and a collection of properties, the collection of properties forming a program.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for determining relevant information from a document based on document structure. A document is selected and structural elements within the document having a dominance relationship are determined. A first location within the document is selected. The structural element surrounding the first location is determined and the surrounding and non-surrounding structural elements are characterized. Additional documents are associated with the first location in the surrounding structural element based on the surrounding structural element characterization and the non-surrounding structural element characterization. Techniques for dynamically determining annotations for images based on document structure are also provided.

The media collection and management tool utilizes intuitive interfaces to configure programs.
