    Abstract: A novel process has been found in which the two types of plastic particles having similar specific gravities in a mixture are safely, efficiently, effectively and economically separated after being soaked in a plasticizer for a predetermined amount of time. The recovered and reclaimed particles can be reprocessed without any additional steps other than washing and drying. This novel process is useful in recycling waste plastic materials especially those materials containing polyvinyl chloride.

    Abstract: An elasticized, dispersion-grade vinyl chloride resin powder is provided which not only imparts improved elasticity and reduced hysteresis losses to fluid plastisols made therewith, but also has excellent stability under adverse environmental conditions, insuring consistent performance in plastisols even after said powder has been in storage for several months. This resin powder has an average particle size between about 0.4 and about 4 microns and contains between about 0.5 and about 20% by weight of an elastomeric acrylic polymer having a T.sub.g below about -10.degree. C. which is present as discrete particles most of which are at least partly occluded by hard thermoplastic vinyl chloride polymer formed in situ, which vinyl chloride polymer represents substantially all of the remaining mass of said powder.Fluid plastisols prepared from said resin powder are also described as well as finished articles of improved resiliency and elasticity, which are made from said plastisols.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a process for preparing vinyl dispersion resins by conducting the polymerization reaction of the vinyl monomer or monomers in an aqueous alkaline medium, using an oil-soluble polymerization initiator, at low temperatures, in the presence of an emulsifier and, optionally, at least one long straight chain alcohol containing from 14 to 24 carbon atoms, and in the presence of an electrolyte, such as for example, ammonium carbonate ((NH.sub.4).sub.2 CO.sub.3), and wherein the reaction ingredients are thoroughly mixed, or homogenized, prior to polymerization. The aqueous emulsion of the polymer(s) so produced are capable of being dried into friable aggregates of individual spheres of polymer particles. The dried resin can easily be formulated into plastisols of high North Fineness and high gloss. In addition, polymer buildup in the reactor is reduced.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing vinyl dispersion resins by conducting the polymerization reaction of the vinyl monomer or monomers in an aqueous alkaline medium, using an oil-soluble polymerization initiator, at temperatures preferably below about 48.degree. C., in the presence of an emulsifier system comprising the ammonium salt of a high fatty acid containing from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, at least one long straight chain alcohol containing from 14 to 24 carbon atoms, and a sulfate or sulfonate type soap of C.sub.12 to C.sub.20 alkyl or aryl hydrocarbons, wherein the ratio of alcohol to emulsifier is equal to or greater than 1.0 and wherein the reaction ingredients are thoroughly mixed, and preferably homogenized, prior to polymerization. The process produces paste resins having improved plastisol foam properties, especially when sodium metabisulfite is added to the polymer recipe or the polymer slurry prior to spray drying.

    Abstract: Strong heat-sealable nonwoven fabrics, textiles, papers and other substrates which have been treated with a polymer latex derived predominantly from polymers of vinyl halides or vinylidene halides which have been overpolymerized with one or more of .alpha.,.beta. -olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids, olefinically unsaturated amides or their N-alkylol and N-alkoxyalkyl derivatives, and esters of acrylic and methacrylic acids. Copolymers of vinyl halide or vinylidene halide with vinylidene monomers containing a terminal CH.sub.2 =C< group may also be overpolymerized in the same way in making the heat sealable articles.
