Patent number: 9219884Abstract: Techniques are provided for broadcasting history or coarse representations or both of stroke media and other media. Levels are created for media, and the levels are periodically broadcast. The levels segment the media and allow the media to be examined with details that range from coarse to fine or examined with varying importance or both. The periodic broadcast of the levels provides history of the media. In particular, for stroke data, levels of detail are determined through a certain method. Each level of detail is periodically broadcast. The levels of detail may be shown by themselves or combined at a receiver to create segmented views of the stroke data. A user can select a coarse view of the stroke data to quickly see the stroke history. Additionally, techniques are provided for quickly and repeatedly accessing data elements in already existing data structures. Generally, a description is created that describes data elements in a preexisting data structure.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2007Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Zon-Yin Shae, Belle L. Patent number: 8775606Abstract: Embodiments presented herein provide methods, systems and computer program products for determining a count of network users. One method identifies one or more login access requests, from one or more server logs. Each of the one or more login access requests comprises a login cookie, and a user identifier. The method then forms one or more connected components based on the one or more login access requests. Each connected component comprises one or more user identifiers, wherein each of the one or more user identifiers is associated with one or more login cookies. The method finally determines a count of login users based, at least in part, on the user identifiers in the one or more connected components.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2010Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: Yahoo! Inc.Inventors: Liang Zhang, Anirban Dasgupta, Belle L. Tseng, Benjamin Graham, Arun A. Prakash

Patent number: 7953693Abstract: A method and apparatus for ontology-based classification of media content are provided. With the method and apparatus, initial confidence values of classifiers in a hierarchical classification structure are modified based on relationships between classifiers. A confidence value for a classifier is boosted by a boosting factor based on a correspondence between the confidence value and confidence values of ancestor classifiers in the hierarchical classification structure. A confidence value for a classifier is modified by a confusion factor based on a correspondence between the confidence value of the classifier and the confidence values of mutually exclusive classifiers in the hierarchical classification structure. In this way, a more accurate representation of the actual confidence that media content falls within the classification associated with the classifier is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2008Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: John R. Publication number: 20100293175Abstract: To increase the amount of training data available to train a machine learning ranking function, data from multiple markets are normalized in such a manner as to optimize a measurement of quality of the ranking function trained on the various sets of normalized training data. Furthermore, the feature scores of training data from individual markets are adapted to conform to the distributions of feature scores from a base market. Such adapted training data from the various markets may be used to train a single, robust ranking function. Adaptation of feature scores in a particular training data set involves mapping feature scores of the particular training data set to feature scores of a base training data set to conform the distributions of the feature scores in the particular training data set to the distributions of the feature scores in the base training data set.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2009Publication date: November 18, 2010Inventors: Srinivas Vadrevu, Belle L. Patent number: 7793212Abstract: A manual annotation system of multi-modal characteristics in multimedia files. There is provided an arrangement for selection an observation modality of video with audio, video without audio, audio with video, or audio without video, to be used to annotate multimedia content. While annotating video or audio features is isolation results in less confidence in the identification of features, observing both audio and video simultaneously and annotating that observation results in a higher confidence level.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2003Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Hugh W. Patent number: 7355584Abstract: Projector and camera arrangements are provided for use in electronic whiteboard systems. Specifically, the present invention provides projector and camera arrangements wherein the projector and camera share the same imaging optics. By sharing the same projection and camera optics, the distortions that affect the projection system are the same as those of the camera system. Thus, the calibration step required in conventional whiteboard systems where the projector and camera are separate, i.e., each having their own distinct optics and settings, is no longer needed. Further, the arrangements provided in accordance with the invention are self-aligning, even when lens distortions are large and even in the presence of strong perspective effects. The shared optics projector and camera arrangements of the invention also provide for dynamic zooming. In addition, various active and passive optical marker or lightpen designs are provided for use in electronic whiteboard systems.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2005Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ferdinand Hendriks, Zon-Yin Shae, Belle L.
