Patent number: 9350111Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to systems and methods for interfacing with a network access device (“NAD”). An NAD in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure comprises an interface extension extending from a housing of the NAD. The interface extension comprises a cable and an enclosure that is sealed by a removable cap. The cable extends from a port on the housing, and the enclosure is positioned on the cable a desired distance from the housing. The removable cap screws onto the enclosure to form a water-tight chamber within the enclosure. The interface extension further comprises an interface connector connected to an end of the cable, and the interface connector is positioned within the chamber when the removable cap is screwed onto the enclosure. When access to the NAD is desired, a technician removes (e.g. unscrews) the removable cap from the enclosure and connects the interface connector to a user interface device.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2011Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: ADTRAN, Inc.Inventors: Ben Dyer, Grant Joseph Kruse

Patent number: 8605567Abstract: A communication system utilizes at least one digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) at an intermediate point between a network facility and one or more customer premises. Initially, as few as one DSLAM, may be implemented at the intermediate point, but the system can be expanded to include any number of DSLAMs at the intermediate point. Any of the DSLAMs at the intermediate point can be selectively upgraded at any time to a vectoring solution as may be desired. The use of such DSLAMs provides the network service provider with flexibility in implementing and maintaining the network.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2011Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: ADTRAN, Inc.Inventors: John Wilkes, Ben Dyer, Tom Ballard
