  • Patent number: 6260346
Abstract: A method of combusting a fuel, and a combustion plant are proposed. The combustion plant comprises a first circuit (1) with a gasifying reactor (3) to produce a combustible gas and a degassed, combustible rest product from the fuel. The combustible gas is supplied to a first combustion chamber (6) and there it is combusted while forming combustion gases. First means (8, 9) are arranged to take advantage of the energy in these gases. The plant further comprises a second circuit (2) with a second combustion chamber (15) which is supplied with the combustible rest product from the gasifying reactor (3). The rest product is combusted in the second combustion chamber (15) while forming combustion gases. The second circuit (2) further comprises second means (23, 24) for taking advantage of the energy of the combustion gases produced in the second circuit (2).

  • Patent number: 5435122
Abstract: A method for temperature control of an air supply in PFBC plants which comprise a low-pressure unit including a low-pressure compressor and a low-pressure turbine, a high-pressure unit including a high-pressure compressor and a high-pressure turbine, wherein air is sucked into the low-pressure compressor whereupon the air is passed via an intermediate cooler, which is traversed by water, into the high-pressure compressor and then into a boiler of the plant. The method includes measuring in a temperature control system a temperature of the air both upstream and downstream of the high-pressure compressor, comparing the two measured temperature values and corresponding set values for the respective upstream and downstream temperature, and activating, based only on one of the comparisons, a shunt valve of an intermediate cooler. The control signal of the shunt valve consists of the output signal from the temperature control system.

  • Patent number: 5193337
Abstract: Gas turbine unit comprising a high pressure turbine (10) driving a high pressure compressor (11), and a low pressure turbine (13) driving a low pressure compressor (14) and a generator (12), a combustion chamber supplying gas to the compressors, and a recuperator (18) for heat exchange between exhaust gas and compressor air, the low pressure turbine having an adjustable geometry and an adjustable connection (20) being provided bypassing the recuperator, and a method in operating the gas turbine unit wherein the electrical power is adjusted to a desired value by changing the geometry of the low pressure turbine and the heat power is adjusted by adjusting the bypass flow to a desired value.

  • Patent number: 4893466
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating a gas turbine unit comprising a combustion chamber, a high pressure turbine driven by gas from the combustion chamber, and a low pressure turbine driven by gas from the high pressure turbine, means for controlling the gas supply from the high pressure turbine to the low pressure turbine, and a low pressure compressor driven by the low pressure turbine, and a high pressure compressor connected in series with the low pressure compressor and driven by the high pressure turbine for supplying pressurized air to the combustion chamber, the useful power of the gas turbine unit being adjustable by controlling the gas condition upstream of the low pressure turbine by the control means. Substantially all the air delivered to the combustion chamber from the compressors, is utilized for the combustion in the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4170874
Abstract: A gas turbine unit comprising an expansion turbine, a compressor and a turbine engine arranged in sequence on a common shaft. The rotor element of the expansion turbine comprises fan blades having a straight non-curved profile. Guide vanes are provided upstream of the expansion turbine to form a throttling device for controlling the flow of air to the expansion turbine. The guide vanes are adjustable relative to the blades of the expansion turbine to deflect the air to vary the throttling effect to cause the expansion turbine to operate alternately as a compressor and a turbine in response to the adjustment of the guide vanes.
