  • Patent number: 8885522
Abstract: An integrated cellular/Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone system including a flexible alerting system, which in response to an inbound call placed to a pilot telephone number, routes a first call leg to a cellular telephone assigned to the pilot telephone number and a second call leg to a telephone number. The telephone system includes a VoIP server configured to establish an inbound call to a VoIP client and establish an outbound call setting caller identification data corresponding to the pilot telephone number, responsive to an outbound call by the VoIP client. An outbound call from the VoIP client to the pilot telephone number is automatically routed to a voice mail system unless otherwise indicated. Based on an indication to not use a pilot telephone number for caller identification, an outbound call is established from the VoIP client to the cellular telephone, without being automatically directed to the voice mail system.

  • Patent number: 8638794
Abstract: Method and system for routing traffic across multiple network interfaces with use of VPN traffic selector as part of decision making, for example, in the context of a mobile communication network. A packet data unit (PDU) is generated in association with an application that can be selectively activated on a mobile device and carries a destination Internet protocol (IP) address representing a server that supports the application. A broker associated with the mobile device retrieves information relating to traffic selectors and determines whether the PDU is associated with an operator application or a non-operator application based on the destination IP address and the information relating to traffic selectors. The broker routes the PDU to one of the multiple network interfaces based on whether the PDU is from an operator application traffic and local policies.

  • Patent number: 8244204
Abstract: A mechanism is provided to suspend or modify incoming call restrictions for a subscriber station for some time period when it is detected that an emergency call was made by that subscriber station, so as to disable the restriction that would otherwise block completion of an incoming call to that station. This allows a call placed by emergency personnel in response to the emergency call from the subscriber station (i.e. when the emergency personnel calls back the user that is involved in the emergency) to bypass any restrictions setup by the subscriber or by the network that would otherwise block the callback and allows the emergency callback to potentially reach the caller. This approach results in a systematic solution to blocking of emergency callbacks that applies to various kinds of restriction services yet is relatively simple to administer.

  • Patent number: 7729685
Abstract: Prepaid PTT service calls through a switched mobile communication network may originate at off-net roaming locations. A flag is set in a mobile telephone station indicating that the mobile station is that of a prepaid subscriber, to set a PTT client program to its “prepaid mode.” When the prepaid mobile station initiates a PTT call while roaming off-net, the call is directed to a prepaid server, and the PTT client program assists the subscriber to re-enter the called number when the prepaid server prompts the subscriber to do so. The call can then be extended from the prepaid server platform to a PTT switch for establishing communication with one or more selected contacts in a contact list, based on translation of the contact number to one or more destination telephone numbers for the called contact(s).

  • Patent number: 7495608
Abstract: Mobile station position determination through a wireless communication network, such as a preliminary fix for use in satellite acquisition assistance, utilizes wireless network almanac data defined in a “virtual” manner, for example, with regard to “virtual base stations.” A virtual base station (VBS) is a logical construct, essentially modeled from a number of actual base stations in a generally known region that use some common identification (e.g. the same SID/NID combination). The VBS has a coverage/service area approximating the aggregate coverage area of the actual base stations. The service provider offering acquisition assistance or a location based service need not know the precise locations of the actual base stations. Instead, the service provider can compile a virtual base station almanac (VBSA) based on the identification information and virtual base station location information, for example, to support the service(s) when the provider's customers roam onto another carrier's network facilities.

  • Patent number: 7200387
Abstract: Systems and methods for invoking location-based services on a mobile station are provided. An server receives an invocation request from a client entity. The server communicates the invocation request to a gateway, which generates the message for the destination mobile station and sends this message to a message center. The message includes parameters that identify one or more applications that are resident on the mobile station. The mobile station includes a receiver for receiving the message from the mobile communication network and a processor for invoking the identified applications by executing program code instructions that are configured to perform a location-based service or function. Further features, such as the passing of parameters to the invoked application, are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20050096006
Abstract: A telephone call processing arrangement establishes a path between a called switching center and an audio content server in response to receipt of an incoming call to a subscriber. A preselected audio presentation is transmitted from the audio content server to the caller in lieu of audible ringback signals. A call leg is then extended from the called switching center to the called or forwarded station and, in response to an answer of the call by the called party, the audio content server is disconnected from the caller while the caller is connected to the call leg. Such provision may be employed for a mobile or landline subscriber.

  • Publication number: 20040180654
Abstract: The disclosed multiple alerting service, provided through a mobile communication network, is controlled by the subscriber's home location register (HLR) and/or the mobile switching center (MSC) provisioned as the home MSC for the pilot number. A call to the pilot number triggers access of the subscriber record in the HLR, and the home MSC launches call legs to the subscriber's mobile station and one or more member numbers. An alternate available member number may be substituted, for example, if a station of one of the initial numbers is unavailable. If a call leg is answered, the home system completes the call to that leg and releases the other call leg(s). If completion to a group station is not possible, the home system redirects the call to an alternate termination, based on the subscriber's record, for example, to a voice mailbox associated with the pilot number in the home system.

  • Patent number: 6574464
Abstract: A network system capable of changing the billing rate for a telecommunication service includes Service Switching Point (SSP) (7) and a Service Control Point (SCP) (9). The SSP (7) implements call management by performing switching functions for placing a call, and implements service selection functions by detecting service indicators associated with the call. The SSP (7) also activates interactions with the SCP (9), which contains logic programs used for providing the indicated service. Signaling System 7 (SS7) of the Common-Channel Interoffice Signaling (CCIS) system is used for digital signaling between the SCP (9) and the SSP (7). When a user initiates a call, the SSP (7) acquires user data and trigger information from a Service Data Base (SDB) (11) associated with the SCP (9). During the call, when the SSP (7) detects that a trigger corresponding to the trigger information has been activated, the SSP (7) subsequently activates a SCP whose address the activated trigger gives.
