  • Patent number: 9873600
Abstract: An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor and transmission coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. Logistics electronics are mounted proximate a first end of the drum and power electronics are mounted proximate a second end of the drum. In general, the logistics electronics include lower power electronics that enable data processing as well as data and commands to be communicated to the apparatus from an external location. By contrast, the power electronics may include higher power electronics needed to receive power and drive the motor.

Abstract: A reactor device (100) for reaction fluid comprising a reaction vessel (102) comprising: an end cap (104) comprising at least one passage (112) for the reaction fluid; and at least one tube (116) which extends through the reaction vessel (102). The reaction vessel is operable to receive a control fluid outside the at least one tube (116) for controlling the temperature inside the at least one tube (116). A manifold (200) is connectable to the end cap (104) and comprises at least one channel (206) for reaction fluid. An outlet (208) from the manifold (200) is in fluid communication with the tube (116). The end cap (104) has a thermal conductivity of greater than 1 watt per square meter kelvin to provide a thermal coupling between the control fluid and the manifold (200).

  • Patent number: 9637360
Abstract: An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor and transmission coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. The transmission includes at least one stage of gearing to reduce a gear ratio of the motor relative to the drum. A shaft couples the motor to the transmission and a locking mechanism selectively locks the shaft to prevent rotation of the drum. In certain embodiments, a braking mechanism may be provided in addition to the locking mechanism to slow the motor when the motor is not applying torque to the drum. This may slow the motor sufficiently to enable engagement of the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6228085
Abstract: An internal bone fixation system for the treatment of bone anomalies, such as thoraco-lumbar spinal instability. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the fixation system includes a plate anatomically contoured to match the profile of lateral aspects common to thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, as well as the anterior profile. The contour of the plate allows for quicker implantation time, a lower profile, and a fit which allows for biomechanical load-sharing which increases the mechanical properties of the construct (i.e., stiffness, strength, and fatigue life). Moreover, the fixation system includes a fastener screw-plate interface which forces proper alignment between fastener screws and the plate, provides “pull-out” resistance and evenly distributes stresses on both the screw and the plate. Ledges are located on the medial surface at either end of the plate. The fixation system also includes set screws which effectively turn the screw construct into a bolt construct.
