    Abstract: A photonic system for compressing and decompressing data using a hologram that converts a plurality of spatially modulated light beams into a single reference beam that has a wavelength unique to a bit string of data. The single reference beam is then converted into a plurality of spatially modulated light beams by a diffraction grating. The light beams are detected by a bank of photodetectors which convert the photonic energy into electrical signals that correspond to the originally transmitted bit string.
