Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus are described herein that include obtaining metadata within a document, where the metadata comprises a sequence of terms. Tags are assigned to terms in the sequence of terms based at least in part on grammatical relationships between the terms, thereby forming a corresponding sequence of tags. A determination is made that the sequence of terms is grammatically correct based at least in part on tags within the corresponding sequence of tags. In response to the determination, the sequence of terms is stored as a query suggestion.

Abstract: A system and method for providing preferred language and/or country ordering of search results is described. A search query describing potentially retrievable information provided in a plurality of search result languages and/or countries is received. A search is executed by evaluating the search query against information characteristics maintained in a searchable data repository. At least one preferred language and/or country applicable to search results generated is dynamically determined responsive to the executed search. At least some of the search results are ordered in consideration of the at least one preferred language and/or country.

Abstract: A method includes generating search results in response to a user query, where at least one of the search results includes a group of links. The group of links may represent links to web pages within a same web site and may be identified based on at least one factor associated with the links. The method may also include providing the search results to the user.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer software for generating a search query involve displaying a search query entry page that includes multiple fields for entry of search parameters. User input defining at least a portion of a search query for at least one of the fields is received. A formatted search query having a format associated with a predetermined search engine is dynamically generated based on the received user input, and the formatted search query is displayed.

Abstract: An information retrieval system includes a query revision architecture that integrates multiple different query revisers, each implementing one or more query revision strategies. A revision server receives a user's query, and interfaces with the various query revisers, each of which generates one or more potential revised queries. The revision server evaluates the potential revised queries, and selects one or more of them to provide to the user. A session-based reviser suggests one or more revised queries, given a first query, by calculating an expected utility for the revised query. The expected utility is calculated as the product of a frequency of occurrence of the query pair and an increase in quality of the revised query over the first query.

Abstract: A system may aggregate highlighting information associated with a document that includes a number of elements. The highlighting information may identify one or more of the elements that have been highlighted by a group of users. The system may determine weight values for the one or more elements, generate information associated with the document based on the weight values, and provide the information.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of determining the relevance, to a user, of documents accessible over a computer network involves analyzing information relating to a first document, identifying a second document corresponding to the first document using a computer, obtaining information that indicates the relevance of a second document, determining the relevance of the first document using the information indicating relevance of the second document. The first document may be a mobile document, while the second may be a non-mobile document.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a user interface with search query broadening is described. A query defining a search executable on potentially retrievable information is accepted. The query is parsed. A broadened query is provided. At least one of the broadened query and results of a search executed on the broadened query is presented.

Abstract: Techniques for crawling hyperlinked documents are provided. Hyperlinked documents to be crawled are grouped by host and the host to be crawled next is selected according to a stall time of the host. The stall time can indicate the earliest time that the host should be crawled and the stall times can be a predetermined amount of time, vary by host and be adjusted according to actual retrieval times from the host.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method can include receiving, in a system that maintains web notebooks for a plurality of user accounts, a request for a web document from a client computing device; determining whether a portion of the requested web document is included in a web notebook associated with one of the plurality of user accounts; and when it is determined that the portion is included in a web notebook associated with one of the plurality of user accounts, providing for display by the client computing device a highlighted version of the web document having a visual indicator that highlights the portion. In one aspect, a search service provides query suggestions responsive to a query suggestion request from a client device, and determines if a prediction criterion is met. The prediction criterion is independent of a user selection of a query suggestion provided in response to one or more query suggestion requests. In response to determining that the prediction criterion is met, the search system provides search results to the client device. The search results are responsive to one of the query suggestions provided in response to the query suggestion request or one or more previous query suggestion requests.

Abstract: Web quotes are gathered from web pages that link to a web page of interest. The web quote may include text from the paragraphs that contain the hypertext links to the page of interest as well as text from other portions of the linked web page, such as text from a nearby header.
