Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for addressing open space noise are disclosed using both dynamic and static sound masking. In one example, an adaptive sound masking system and method portions undesired sound into time-blocks and estimates frequency spectrum and power level, and continuously generates masking noise with a matching or predetermined spectrum and loudness or power level to mask the undesired sound. In another example, a static sound masking system and method portions undesired sound into time-blocks and estimates frequency spectrum and power level, and generates a static noise-masking signal with a matching spectrum and power level to mask the undesired sound.

Abstract: A common communications protocol is described among devices in a unified communications network. Native devices receive upstream commands and forward them to downstream devices without interpreting the commands. The native devices reformat commands intended for mapped devices in the unified communications network. The common communications protocol calls for left shifting address fields for transmitted commands until the command arrives at its intended destination.

The headset includes a wireless communications transceiver operable to form a first local wireless link with a first local telephone in communication with a first far end telephone user and a second local wireless link with a second local telephone in communication with a second far end telephone user. The headset further includes a processor operable to establish a conference call between the headset user, the first far end telephone user, and the second far end telephone user.
