    Abstract: The present application is directed to a method for detecting presence or absence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a sample. The method first involves contacting the sample with a primary oligonucleotide primer set. The primary oligonucleotide primer set comprises: (i) a first oligonucleotide primer comprising a nucleotide sequence complementary to a first portion of the SARS-CoV-2 transmembrane domain 2 gene, and (ii) a second oligonucleotide primer comprising a nucleotide sequence complementary to an extension product formed from the first oligonucleotide primer of the primary oligonucleotide primer set.
