Patent number: 8327728Abstract: Described is a torque amplifying device that is of centrifugal or gyroscopic type and has a unidirectional drive or drives. This device is used to control the body of a controlled object, such as an airplane, helicopter, land vehicle, cargo handling mechanism, earth moving machine or maritime device or vehicle. The torque amplifying devices are designed so that they supply a torque (momentum) to the body of the controlled object where it is connected. Thereby, the orientation or weight distribution of the body is controlled. The orientation is achieved without resorting to the physical properties of the surrounding environment (ground, water or air). Thus, it can apply a torque to this body in pitch, roll and/or yaw, so that it achieves the position or weight distribution the control system is calling for. The duration of the torque can be unlimited, until the conditions that produce it are intentionally changed.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Inventor: Bengt A. Carlson

Patent number: 7451781Abstract: The invention provides valves of the type employing a differential pressure regulator and a characterized valve with a mechanism to enhance control of fluid flow independently of system pressure. The valves of the invention are especially suitable for HVAC applications, and provide operation with improved accuracy over a greater flow range with a reduced risk of hunting. In one preferred aspect, the invention provides improvements by the employment in the differential pressure regulator of a diaphragm with a cup arranged to provide a small leakage, thereby dampening the response of the regulator. In another aspect, a baffle is provided to protect the downstream side of a control disk forming part of the differential pressure regulator.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2005Date of Patent: November 18, 2008Assignee: Belimo Automation AGInventor: Bengt A. Patent number: 7051994Abstract: Valves, particularly useful for controlling flow of heat transfer fluids in various heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems, are provided. The valves are of the curtain valve type and operate at very low torque and provide easy assembly and repair. The valve or actuator has an adjustment for the flow coefficient. A disclosed valve comprises a valve body having an inside surface, an inlet port comprised of an opening through the inside surface and enabling fluid flow into the valve body, an outlet port comprised of an opening through the inside surface and enabling fluid flow from the valve body, and a curtain valve closure. The closure adjustably controls fluid flow through the outlet port and is of a modular design including a flexible diaphragm held in an insert positioned at least partially within the outlet port. The insert has at least one dimension larger than a mating surface on the internal surface of the valve body.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2002Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignee: Belimo Holding AGInventor: Bengt A. Publication number: 20050039797Abstract: Simple APCV, ADPCV and PICV's are provided. The APCV's are referenced to the atmosphere and control the gauge pressure, either upstream or downstream. The ADPCV's are the same as the APCV's, differing in that they are not referenced to the atmosphere. They are instead referenced to a second point in the fluid flow system and control the differential pressure. The PICV's are control valves connected in series with ADPCV's and control the fluid flow rate through the valve independently of variations in the line pressure. A preferred APCV has a valve body (1) with connections for a single-phase fluid line and a flow passage between the inlet (2) and the outlet (3) of said fluid line, with an opening having a defined seat office (7) intersecting the flow passage. A moveable assembly, comprising a disk (5) or cup is connected to a pressure sensing member (4), having essentially the same effective surface area.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2004Publication date: February 24, 2005Inventor: Bengt Carlson

Patent number: 6837480Abstract: A valve connected to a fluid pipe line and having a valve chamber and at least one inlet port (3) and one outlet port (4), the valve comprising a ball (5) mounted in the valve chamber between a pair of seats (8, 9), and having an exterior surface and two ends and a fluid passageway extending between the two ends, the ball (5) is turned by a stem (6) for selective adjustment between an open and a closed position, with the ball (5) and stem (6) having an axis of rotation perpendicular to the centerline between the inlet (3) and outlet (4) ports, and the ball (5) having the centerline for its fluid flow passageway at an angle different from perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the ball (5).Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2000Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Belimo Holding AGInventor: Bengt A. Patent number: 5472014Abstract: Liquid flow through a conduit in a branch of a hydronic system provided with a balancing valve and, in series therewith, a metering valve to obtain a desired rate of flow in the branch is regulated by positioning immediately adjacent an accelerated-flow zone in the metering valve in the conduit a pitot having an upstream side directed upstream against a direction of flow through the conduit and a downstream side directed downstream in the flow direction. The metering valve is settable in a plurality of predetermined positions each corresponding to a respective flow cross section through the conduit. A differential pressure meter is connected to both sides of the pitot, the one of the predetermined valve positions is selected that gives a near full-range reading on the meter, and the metering valve is set in this selected one position.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1994Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Inventor: Bengt A.
