  • Patent number: 6050513
Abstract: A modular spinning reel is made with a modular gearbox that includes a one piece gearbox shell that encloses a drive gear within. The modular gearbox permits components subject to wear and damage to be readily replaced without disassembling the precision gears while also providing a drive component that can be manufactured in quantity with high precision.

  • Patent number: 5899398
Abstract: In the making of a frame for a fishing reel of the multiplier type, a tubular aluminum section is produced by extrusion. The aluminum section is cut to length corresponding to the width of the frame to be made, this length being thereafter processed to form a frame.

  • Patent number: 5607114
Abstract: A line spool assembly to be mounted on a spindle in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a hollow shaft non-rotatably mountable on the spindle, and a line spool rotatably mounted on the shaft. The line spool has an inner sleeve member rotatably mounted on the shaft, and an outer sleeve member for receiving a fishing line wound thereon, the outer sleeve member being non-rotatably mounted on the inner sleeve member and, by a releasable locking element, axially fixed thereto. A line spool drag acting between the shaft and the inner sleeve member for braking the rotation thereof around the shaft. The outer sleeve member is, when the locking element is released, axially removable from the inner sleeve member so as to be separated from the rest of the line spool assembly.

  • Patent number: 5605299
Abstract: An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a housing, a rotor shaft, which is rotatably mounted in the housing and supports a rotor non-rotatably connected therewith, and a free-wheeling hub mechanism. The free-wheeling hub mechanism has an outer ring which is fixedly connected to the housing, an inner ring which is non-rotatably mounted on the rotor shaft and located inside the outer ring, and an annular roll holder which is placed in an annular gap between the two rings and by resilient shafts, supports the rolls. The rolls are rotatable about the shafts and held by these in resilient abutment against the inner ring. The roll holder is, within narrow limits, turnable between a first turning position, in which the rolls are clamped between the inner ring and ramp surfaces of the outer ring, thereby preventing rotation of the rotor in one direction, and a second turning position, in which the rolls are released and abut against the inner ring only to be rotated thereby.

  • Patent number: 5603465
Abstract: A line spool assembly for mounting on a spindle in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a hollow shaft non-rotatably mountable on the spindle and having a front portion, a rear portion and an externally threaded intermediate portion, and a line spool rotatably mounted on the shaft. A line spool drag for adjustable braking of the rotation of the line spool around the shaft has at least two drag washers, one of which is non-rotatably connected to the shaft and the other is non-rotatably connected to the line spool and which are in rotation-impeding frictional engagement with each other. An adjusting knob for adjusting the braking effect of the line spool drag is rotatably mounted on the rear portion of the shaft behind the line spool.

  • Patent number: 5575431
Abstract: An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a housing, a spindle element non-rotatably arranged in the housing, a handle for rotating a drive shaft, mounted in the housing, and a rotor which is rotatable by rotation of the drive shaft. A hollow line spool shaft is non-rotatably arranged on a sleeve-shaped front member of the spindle element and rotatably supports a line spool. An oscillating mechanism is arranged in the front spindle member to impart to the line spool an axial oscillating motion about a center of oscillation as the rotor rotates. An adjusting mechanism is arranged for setting the center of oscillation in a desired position along the front spindle member.

  • Patent number: 5560561
Abstract: A bail mechanism in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type having a rotor and a line spool which is coaxial with the rotor and oscillates in the axial direction, has a bail for winding a line onto the line spool. By means of two mounting elements, the bail is mounted on two attachments disposed diametrically opposite each other on the rotor. The bail is pivotable about a bail axis perpendicular to the axis of the rotor, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position, in which the bail is released of the line. A holder, which is fixed to the bail at one end thereof, is connected to one of the mounting elements. A shaft is provided between the holder and this mounting element. A line roller having a circumferential line-guiding groove in its outer circumferential surface, is mounted on the shaft so as to guide the line when being wound onto the line spool.

  • Patent number: 5096137
Abstract: An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a rotor, a line spool coaxial with the rotor, a bail for winding a line onto the spool and a detachable trigger mechanism. Two attachments are provided on the rotor. Two mounting elements supporting the bail are so rotatably mounted each on one attachment that the bail is pivotal about a bail axis perpendicular to the rotor axis, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position in which it is released of the line. One attachment has a recess. The trigger mechanism consists of a lever having a pivot pin engaging in the recess. The lever is rotatable about a first axis parallel to the bail axis and defined by the pivot pin between a first position and a second position.
