  • Patent number: 4672926
Abstract: An arrangement for hydraulic pressure feed to self-adjusting hydraulic valve pushers in an internal combustion engine has a number of valves arranged in line in the engine cylinder head. The valve pushers are actuable by a cam shaft rotatably mounted in a number of bearings mounted on the cylinder head above the valves and the valve pushers. For providing the valve pushers and cam shaft bearings with satisfactory hydraulic pressure feed via a passage system limited in the cylinder head, in a simple and inexpensive way, the pressure oil is fed via a distribution conduit running along the line of valves and having a number of branch conduits. Each branch conduit extends in a plane at right angles to the cam shaft through one of its bearings, for pressure feed to said bearing and to at least one valve pusher. Each branch conduit preferably connects to a pocket formed in the cylinder head connecting the bearings of two valve pushers to each other.

  • Patent number: 4505348
Abstract: An arrangement in a heavy motor vehicle affords relative rotation in a conduit connection for intake air from a supercharger via a charge air cooler to the combustion engine. The supercharger and the engine are fixed to the vehicle frame, while a body unit covering the engine is tiltably mounted relative said frame. For easy access to the drive unit, the charge air cooler is fixed to the tiltably mounted body unit. For tight and strong conduit connections between charge air cooler and supercharger or engine, at least one connection has two cooperating conduit ends joined to each other to form a swivel joint permitting relative rotation between said ends about their common center line.

  • Patent number: 4484550
Abstract: Internal combustion engine with at least one combustion chamber produced within a cylinder head or similar device, it being possible to feed a fuel-and-air mixture into said combustion chamber through two inlet valves arranged in the cylinder head and to discharge from the said combustion chamber exhaust gases through two exhaust valves arranged in the cylinder head, with the invention also relating to a method of producing such a combustion chamber by means of a casting process. The invention is characterized in that the combustion chamber (1) consists of four cavities (4,5,6,7) distributed in quadrants with a circular plane forming part of base plane (8) of cylinder head (2), in that each individual cavity (4-7) has a shape which is in the main rotationally symmetrical and in that the cavities (4-7) overlap one another, whereby arc-shaped transitions are formed between cavities (4-7) in base plane (8).

  • Patent number: 4123996
Abstract: A spark ignited Otto cycle type engine have a fixed compression ratio which is supplied with a mixture of air and fuel having an octane number lower than that which would normally be appropriate for the compression ratio. The engine operates in a range below a predetermined high load without spontaneous combustion of the fuel-air mixture but will be susceptible to spontaneous combustion when operated above the predetermined high load. The engine includes means for controlling combustion of the fuel-air mixture when operating above the predetermined high load in a manner to decrease the efficiency of the engine and to prevent spontaneous combustion which would otherwise occur.
