  • Patent number: 4674682
Abstract: Admixing of an atomized liquid to a gas flow (7 FIG. 1) may be performed without risk of recirculation and clogging caused thereby if the supply of atomized liquid according to the present invention is effected in separate part flows introduced into said gas flow (7) in such directions that each part flow has a component in the same direction as the direction of the gas flow (7). Each part flow is supplied at such location that it is wholly surrounded by a part of the gas flow (7). The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the above method, which device comprises a number of atomizing tubes for supply of the separate part flows of liquid and atomizing gas. The tubes have such axial and radial direction relative to the gas flow that the atomized liquid is directed into the gas flow to treat the gas flow in an area radially outside the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4612865
Abstract: A cyclone furnace for the combustion of solid fuels, comprising a generally cylindrical combustion chamber (21) is closed at one end (18, 23) and is provided with at least one inlet opening for fuel and air and has an outlet at the end opposite the closed end. The combustion chamber (21) is generally horizontal. The combustion chamber, at the bottom of the cylindrical wall (22), near the end wall (23), is provided with an opening (87) for discharging ash. An ash discharge conduit (12) is arranged intermediate said ash discharge opening and an ash bin (16) or the like. An ash discharge sluice (92) is provided in the discharge conduit, and scraping means (45, 47) are provided to scrape loose ash and slag from the surface of the end wall (23) and from the combustion chamber wall (22) next to the end wall, said scraping means being arranged to be rotated about the horizontal axis of the combustion chamber (21).

  • Patent number: 4277942
Abstract: Apparatus for recirculating combustion exhaust gases to the burner region of a Stirling cycle hot-gas engine to lower combustion temperature and reduct NO.sub.x formation includes a first wall separating the exhaust gas stream from the inlet air stream, a second wall separating the exhaust gas stream from the burner region, and low flow resistance ejectors formed in the first and second walls for admitting the inlet air to the burner region and for entraining and mixing with the inlet air portion of the exhaust gas stream. In a preferred embodiment the ejectors are arranged around the periphery of a cylindrical burner region and oriented to admit the air/exhaust gas mixture tangentially to promote mixing. In another preferred embodiment a single annular ejector surrounds and feeds the air/exhaust gas mixture to a cylindrical burner region. The annular ejector includes an annular plate with radially-directed flow passages to provide an even distribution of the air/exhaust gas mixture to the burner region.
