    Abstract: An apparatus for aiding water removal from a moving paper web directs steam to a portion of the web and controls the distribution of steam in both the cross-machine and the machine direction of the web. In the preferred embodiment, a matrix of compartments is used to supply steam to the web, and the steam supply to each compartment is independently controlled.
