A sail surface of the kite (14) is spanned by a first kite part (40) and a second kite part (41). A connection (36) which exists in the sail surface between the first kite part (40) and the second kite part (41) is separated such that the kite (14) assumes a different aerodynamic state and falls to the ground with the control pod (25). The invention also relates to a kite system.

The kite (14) is connected to the gondola (25) via the line tree (24), and the towing rope (15) extends between the gondola (25) and an attachment point (16, 55) installed in the ground. A pulling force which is exerted by the kite (14) during operation is transferred via a towing section (15, 24) which extends from the kite (14) to the attachment point (16, 55) via the line tree (24) and the towing rope (15). A separating device (40) which releases upon contacting water is arranged within the towing section (15, 24). An Internet/web or personal digital assistant (“PDA”) or personal computer (“PC”) based portal is provided to enable a relatively high level of data to be more easily collected. The portal preferably is graphical and guides either the customer or one or more sales persons (or site installer/technician, etc.) in the collection of user requirements data indicative of the particular customer's hardware, telephony and network service requirements. The user requirements data is a less technical, more intuitive level of user requirements data, as compared with configuration data. An initial test of the data preferably is performed, such as for purposes of data consistency, ensuring that all required data has been entered and the like.
