  • Patent number: 4992803
Abstract: Multiple images may be written simultaneously onto at least one photosensitive surface by modulating first and second laser beams in accordance with image information corresponding to first and second images. The first beam is directed onto a scanning mirror at a first angle of incidence A.sub.1, and the second beam is directed onto the same scanning mirror at a second angle of incidence A.sub.2. The first beam is focussed from the scanning mirror onto the photosensitive surface to write the first image thereon. The second beam is focussed from the scanning mirror onto the liquid crystal surface to write the second image thereon spatially remote from the first image.

  • Patent number: 4978560
Abstract: A hot roll glosser and method for the transparentising of resin-coated microencapsulated media includes a pair of heated pressing rolls, in which the roll which comes into contact with a resin surface is formed with an ultra-smooth silicone surface of low furface energy, and the glossing temperature of the rolls at the pressing nip is maintained below the glass transition temperature of the resin. Take-off rolls are disclosed for maintaining a tension in the web material exiting the nip to maintain a negative exit angle with respect to the silicone roll and to prevent adhesion and sticking to the roll.

  • Patent number: 4807560
Abstract: An apparatus for glossing a developer sheet is provided. The developer sheet has a thermoplastic developer resin on the surface thereof wherein the thermoplastic developer resin is capable of forming a film which imparts gloss upon the application of heat thereto. In the process, an arched plate is heated to a temperature sufficient to cause the thermoplastic developer resin to coalesce. The arched plate has a heat transfer limiting blanket thereon to maintain the flatness of the developer sheet. The developer sheet is fed between the convex side of the heated arched plate and a belt held snugly against the plate. The belt is driven so as to move the developer sheet over the heated arched plate.

  • Patent number: 4806733
Abstract: A radiant glossing apparatus and method for glossing developer sheets having a thermoplastic developer resin on a surface includes a continuous heated support belt for the sheet. The belt carries the sheets under a source of radiant energy in the form of a quartz lamp and reflector which direct the energy downwardly onto the belt-supported sheets. The belt is heated by passing over an arched heated plate. A layer of friction material on the place imparts an electrostatic charge to the belt which assists in holding the sheets against the belt.

  • Patent number: 4761311
Abstract: A process for glossing a developer sheet and an apparatus useful therein are provided. The developer sheet has a thermoplastic developer resin on the surface thereof wherein the thermoplastic developer resin is capable of forming a film which imparts gloss upon the applications of heat thereto. In the process, an arched plate is heated to a temperature sufficient to cause the thermoplastic developer resin to coalesce. • Patent number: 4727392
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for pressure developing imaging sheets are described. In a three roll embodiment, first and second rolls are journaled into a housing to form a nip for rupturing microcapsules on the surface of an imaging sheet as it is passed through the nip. Such rolls are aligned at a slight skew angle and are resiliently pressed into one another by means of a third roll supported at a skew angle relative to the roll it contacts. In a two roll embodiment, the first and second rolls are crowned and pressed into contact with one another to present a uniform nip. In a four roll embodiment, the first and second rolls are aligned in parallel with each other, while a skewed roll backs up each of the first and second rolls. The backup rolls may alternatively be crowned. In any embodiment, the imaging sheet is directed into the nip to contact one roll at an angle of arc along the roll ahead of the nip.
