Abstract: A system for optical communication includes at least one light source for transmitting optical signals, at least one optical receiving unit for receiving the optical signals of the at least one light source, at least one mask unit, which is arranged between the optical receiving unit and the at least one light source, and which is designed to be switchable back-and-forth at least in areas between an at least partially optically non-forwarding and at least partially optically forwarding state. An image of at least one light-emitting area of the at least one light source can be imaged onto the at least one mask unit and in the at least partially forwarding state of the at least one mask unit can be conducted to the receiving unit. A method for optical communication is also provided.
