    Abstract: A haze, oxidation, and corrosion resistant diesel engine lubricant composition, particularly useful in marine and railway diesel engines, contains 0.1-5.0 weight percent of a reaction product additive. The reaction product additive is produced by first reacting substantially equimolar amounts of an anhydride compound which is either a dibasic acid anhydride or isatoic anhydride and a hydrocarbon-substituted mono primary amine or ether amine at a temperature range of 50.degree. C.-150.degree. C. to produce an intermediate reaction product. The intermediate reaction product is thereafter further reacted at an elevated temperature with a substantially equimolar amount of a heterocyclic azole or polyalkylene polyamine compound to form the final reaction product.

    Abstract: A lubricant composition includes a mineral lubricanting lubricant composition and a friction modifying amount of a reaction product of an amine and maleic anhydride represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which X and X' are either: ##STR2## in which R and R' can be any hydrocarbon radicals and the total number of carbon atoms in R plus R' varies from about 6 to about 30, and wherein the nitrogen is bound to a secondary carbon atom, or wherein R is a hydrogen atom and R' is a branched hydrocarbon radical having from about 6 to 30 carbon atoms, or ##STR3## in which Y varies from 2 to 6, and in which R" is a hydrocarbon radical having from about 6 to 30 carbon atoms, and R"' is hydrogen or a methyl radical. The lubricant composition finds use in various internal combustion engines including slow and medium speed diesel engines and as a lubricant in the upper cylinder of a slow speed marine diesel engine.

    Abstract: A low foaming lubricating oil composition comprising a mineral oil, an oil soluble detergent-like additive which increases the foaming tendency of the lubricating oil, and an effective amount of an estolide of a hydroxy fatty acid having 10 to 24 carbon atoms which reduces the foaming tendency of the lubricating oil composition. The lubricating oil achieves the low foaming tendency without added silicone polymers and has a silicon content of less than about 10 parts per million by weight. The preferred estolide is the estolide of 12-hydroxystearic acid.
