Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with the present invention include a peripheral device connected to a telecommunications network via a telephone line and connected to a multimedia network via a high-speed serial interface. The peripheral device establishes and maintains multiple logical connections between devices in the multimedia network and devices in the telecommunications network.

Abstract: A two-way carrier wave digital data transmission between a terminal station and a central station over low-voltage power line with long distance of transmission and high accuracy at low implementation costs. Long distance of data transmission is achieved by generating a high-energy communication signal by shorting the circuit near the zero crossing of the fundamental power wave, where the attenuation effect on the carrier signal is least. High accuracy of data transmission is achieved by generating a carrier communication signal at low frequency with a triggering/interrupt voltage signal that is much higher than the expected random noise signal in order to have high signal-to-noise ratio at the fundamental working frequency. As a result of the high signal-to-noise ratio, the receiver then can receive the transmitted signal and clearly differentiate between a “1” bit and a “0” bit data.

Abstract: Cross-service connectivity between use of the telephone network and use of an e-mail data network is provided by enabling a recipient of an e-mail message to receive e-mail messages through an alias e-mail address which is directly associated with the recipient's telephone number. Thus, the alias e-mail address consists of the recipient's telephone number as the recipient name at a well-known and publicized common domain name server. A sender therefore addresses an e-mail message to the recipient to that alias e-mail address using the recipient's alias telephone number name. A message addressed to the alias e-mail address is sent to a translation server at that known domain name, where the alias telephone number-recipient name is translated to the actual e-mail address comprising the recipient's actual name and associated domain name server, and the message is then forwarded to that recipient at that actual e-mail address.
