  • Patent number: 11896807
Abstract: Disclosed are plunger assemblies including various convertible plungers and methods of making the same. Each plunger assembly is configured for disposition within a barrel of a medical container, e.g., a syringe, and displaced within the barrel from an engagement position to a release position. The engagement position is configured to provide a compression seal between a storage sealing section of the plunger and an inner wall of the syringe barrel. In the release position, the compression seal is reduced or eliminated. Also disclosed are methods for making convertible plungers and assembling them into syringes, e.g., pre-filled syringes.

  • Publication number: 20220040412
Abstract: A process for producing gaskets with an improved channel for use in matched syringe and plunger systems, preferably prefilled plastic syringe systems. In particular, an improved process for making and inspecting continuous channels in a gasket film by laser treatment. The gaskets are useful in matched syringe and plunger systems with high and consistent container closure integrity (CCI), and consistent break loose and glide forces over time, and sealability.

  • Patent number: 10258718
Abstract: A process and apparatus for applying a needle lubricant to a syringe. The interface forces between the needle lubricant and the syringe at the tip of the needle are balanced by optimizing the flow rate of a positively pressurized gas that is delivered to the syringe. Such optimization prevents the formation of bubbles in the needle lubricant that is applied to the syringe, thereby providing a confluent, uniform and smooth lubricant coating on the exterior wall of the needle and prevents lubricant from contaminating inner portions of the syringe. The smooth and uniform lubricant coating may minimize dilation and glide forces and pain associated with the insertion of the needle into a patient's tissue. Additionally, a gas pulse may blow off the droplet of needle lubricant from the tip of the needle to further minimize dilation forces and associated patient pain.

  • Patent number: 9458536
Abstract: A method is disclosed in which a vapor-deposited coating or layer is directly or indirectly applied to at least a portion of the internal wall of the barrel of a capped pre-assembly comprising a barrel, optionally a dispensing portion, and a cap. The cap is secured to the barrel and at least substantially isolates the distal opening of the dispensing portion from pressure conditions outside the cap. A vapor-deposited coating or layer is applied directly or indirectly to at least a portion of the internal wall of the barrel while the pre-assembly is capped. The coating or layer is applied under conditions effective to maintain communication from the barrel lumen to the exterior via the front opening, optionally further via the dispensing portion lumen if present, at the end of the applying step. The capped pre-assembly can be pressure tested easily and rapidly, for example with a test duration between 1 and 60 seconds, to determine whether it has container closure integrity.

  • Publication number: 20160001927
Abstract: A container assembly for storing one or more arrays of flat elongate articles is provided. The assembly includes a container body having a base, a sidewall extending vertically from the base, a dispensing opening and an interior space. The container further includes a lid optionally linked to the container body by a hinge. The lid is configured to seat on the container body and cover the dispensing opening when the lid is closed. The assembly further includes an insert disposed within the interior space of the container body. The insert is adapted to hold at least one array of flat elongate articles in a generally vertical and optionally slightly slanted storage position. The insert includes a platform adapted to hold a first flat elongate article in an array higher than an adjacent second flat elongate article in the same array.
