    Abstract: The invention relates to the finding that T cell protein tyrosine phosphatase (TCPTP) has a tumour suppressor function. In one particular application, the invention provides a method of diagnosis and/or prognosis of cancer in a subject involving the assessment, in a suitable body sample, of any lack or reduction of TCPTP protein and/or Ptpn2 gene expression. The invention also provides a method of treating or preventing cancer in a subject involving administering to a subject an agent for modulating the activity of TCPTP.
