  • Publication number: 20070171888
Abstract: The present invention is addressed to method and apparatus for establishing a wireless communications network utilizing portable solar powered access points. Each access point includes a solar panel connected to a base unit containing-one or more charge storage assemblies. A charge controller controls the recharging of the charge storage assemblies. Also contained within the base unit is an access point. A voltage control device controls the flow of electrical charge from the charge storage assemblies to the access point. On the exterior of the base unit is a weatherproof connector for connecting the solar panel to the base unit. Another weatherproof connector is provided on the exterior of the base unit for connecting an antenna, which sends and receives radio transmissions within a basic service area. Yet another weatherproof connector is provided to enable the base unit to be connected to an existing wired network, if desired.
