Abstract: A method for establishing wireless communication comprising transmitting a request signal indicative of a request to establish communication with an external device external to a wireless communication device; determining at the wireless communication device based upon the request signal whether the external device communicates using a packet transmission protocol or a circuit switched transmission protocol; and if said external device communicates using a packet transmission protocol, transmitting subsequent communications from the wireless communication device directed to the external device using the packet transmission protocol.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for queuing subscriber-originated connection requests for respective calls at a server system. A server system in a telecommunications network receives subscriber-originated connection requests for subscriber pending call access to the server system, and thus, the network. Subscriber-originated connection requests are queued at the receiving server system. The server system receiving the subscriber-originated connection request transmits a first message to the respective subscriber originating the connection request upon the server system's queuing of the connection request. Subsequently, upon the server system allocating a connection resource to a queued subscriber-originated connection request, the server system transmits a second message to the respective subscriber.
