Publication number: 20230421862Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for detecting users within a range of a media device. A detection region may be defined that is within the range of the media device and smaller than the range. The detection region may be stored. It may be determined whether a user is within the detection region. The media device may be activated and settings associated with the user may be applied when a user is within the detection region. In some embodiments, settings associated with a user may be compared to provided media content when the user is within the detection region. The content may change when the settings conflict with the media content. Reminders may be provided to or directed to a plurality of users within the range of the media device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: December 28, 2023Inventors: Camron Shimy, Benjamin Kim

Publication number: 20230177565Abstract: Systems and related methods of providing seamless transactions, including payments and promotion redemptions, are discussed herein. Some embodiments may provide for a system including a communication beacon and one or more servers. The communication beacon may be configured to communicate with consumer devices via a direct wireless connection when the consumer devices are within a wireless direct communicable range of the communication beacon. The one or more servers may be configured to associate the communication with a merchant and receive consumer presence data from the communication beacon such that consumer presence at the merchant may be determined. In response, the one or more servers may be configured to perform a seamless transaction on behalf the consumer that allows the consumer to provide payments or redeem promotions, among other things, simply by self-identifying with the merchant while carrying the consumer device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2022Publication date: June 8, 2023Inventor: Benjamin KIM

Patent number: 11348139Abstract: Systems and related methods of providing promotions to consumers based on proximity to communication beacons are discussed herein. Some embodiments may provide for a system including a communication beacon and a central system. The communication beacon may be associated with a merchant and located at a merchant shop. Based on receiving consumer presence data from the communication beacon indicating that a consumer device and the communication beacon has formed a direct wireless connection, the server may be configured to provide merchant information, promotions, or other messages to the consumer device. In some embodiments, messages may be generated by the merchant and targeted to consumers based on consumer device location, consumer demographics, among other things. Furthermore, the server may provide consumer information to a merchant device to facilitate consumer service, point-of-sale, and seamless transactions and promotion redemptions.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2014Date of Patent: May 31, 2022Assignee: Groupon, Inc.Inventors: Varun Krishna, Marius Ciocirlan, Peter Bergstrom, Benjamin Kim

Patent number: 10887779Abstract: This spectrum protection system enables spectrum sharing that protects Earth Exploration-Satellite Services (EESS) observations, which allows for uninterrupted weather forecasting, from terrestrial operations that operate near or within EESS frequency bands without cumbersome restrictions on telecommunications (telecom) providers. The system calculates the satellite observation times using a device's location recognizing that these satellites are only observing a particular location on Earth for a very small amount of time because of their orbital dynamics and scanning characteristics. Using this calculated list of observation times and comparing it to the current time input, the system then enacts a mechanism for action when EESS observations are occurring. Two simple embodiments for the mechanism for action include momentarily changing frequencies or reducing transmission power levels to prevent erroneous EESS measurements.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2019Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Inventors: Benjamin Kim, Melanie Kim
