Abstract: A computing device, or electronic personal display, includes a housing and a display screen. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable and a set of touch sensors are provided therewith. A processor is provided within the housing to detect a gesture via the set of touch sensors, interpret the gesture as one of a plurality of user inputs, and accomplish an output operation of the computing device. The processor, upon detecting a presence of extraneous objects on a surface the screen of the display assembly, associates the output operation for performance in consequence to a motion input.

  • Publication number: 20160117067
Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen and a set of touch sensors. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable. A processor is provided within the housing to manage an e-book library associated with the computing device. Specifically, the e-book library includes at least a first e-book. The processor further associates the computing device with a reading group having a plurality of group members, and detects that a copy of the first e-book resides in an e-book library of a first group member of the plurality of group members. Upon detecting the copy of the first e-book, the processor then selectively initiates a shared reading mode for the first e-book.

  • Publication number: 20160034575
Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen and a set of touch sensors. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable. A processor is provided within the housing to display content pertaining to an e-book on the screen of the display assembly. The processor further detects a first user interaction with the set of touch sensors and interprets the first user interaction as a first user input corresponding with a selection of a word or phrase in the displayed content. In response to the first user input, the processor searches an e-book library for e-books containing the selected word or phrase and presents a set of search results on the display assembly. The set of search results includes one or more e-books that contain the selected word or phrase.

  • Publication number: 20150378533
Abstract: System and method for facilitating location-based social networking among book readers. An electronic reading device installed with a networking application program is allowed to submit a request for discovering compatible readers within a distance from its current location. Compatible readers can be automatically located based on the reading devices associated therewith and based on compatibilities of the reading profiles. The information of the discovered compatible readers can be presented to the requesting reader and allow the requesting reader to initiate an on-line communication with a selected compatible reader. Moreover, a reader can purchase books listed in another reader's reading profile.

  • Publication number: 20150346894
Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable and a set of touch sensors are provided with the display assembly. A processor is provided within the housing to detect a user interaction with the set of touch sensors. The processor further determines, based on the user interaction, that at least a threshold percentage of the screen of the display assembly is covered and executes one or more instructions based, at least in part, upon determining that the at least threshold percentage of the screen is covered. For example, the one or more instructions may include instructions for powering off the computing device, displaying a screen saver on the screen, placing the computing device in a sleep mode, and/or changing a state of the screen of the display assembly.

  • Publication number: 20150317050
Abstract: A computing device displays a user activatable trigger along with a content portion of the e-book when the e-book is rendered for reading. The computing device detects activation of the trigger by user input. The computing device generates communication for a network service from which the e-book is available for download. The generated communication can include an identifier for each of the e-book, the user, and a recipient. According to some embodiments, at least a portion of the communication corresponding to the identifier of the e-book is identified and automatically provided as part of the communication. Abstract: System and method of selecting a portion of a screen display for a manipulation operation according to boundaries set by a user gesture. A touchscreen display is configured to display digital content and detect a multi-touch user gesture. If the user gesture dwells on the touchscreen longer than a first threshold time, a region of the screen display is selected based on the contact points of the user gesture on the touchscreen display. Accordingly an on-screen mask indicating the selected region is displayed, denoting the selected region to be active for a subsequent manipulation operation. The manipulation operation may be capturing a screenshot of the selected region or editing the image or text encompassed by the selected region.

  • Publication number: 20150234786
Abstract: An e-reader application is executed on a computing device in order to display a content from a first e-book. The e-reader application includes a first set of features for use with the first e-book. While displaying the content from the first e-book, a partition is implemented that segments a display area of a display into a first segment and a second segment. The partition is further implemented by providing the content and the set of features on only the first segment, and enabling selection of another resource from a plurality of possible resources using the e-reader application. In response to selection of the other resource, content is displayed based on the selected other resource on only the second segment of the display area.
