  • Patent number: 6494954
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for directly or indirectly applying a liquid or pasty application medium (2) onto one or both sides of a continuous surface (4), wherein the application medium (2) is applied to the surface (4) in a plurality of single application regions by means of a plurality of single application nozzles (12) spaced apart from one another side by side and/or in succession in the direction of width (B) and/or longitudinal direction of the surface (4) and clearly distanced (D) from the surface (4), the application medium (2) emerging from each of these nozzles, wherein adjacent single application regions each intersect (U) at least in part in their respective edge regions, causing a layer of application medium to be produced across substantially the entire width (B) of the surface (4) to be coated. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing this method.

  • Publication number: 20020124796
Abstract: An apparatus for applying liquid or pasty application medium, in particular aqueous pigment suspension, to one or both sides of a moving material web, especially to a paper or board web, during its production and/or finishing. The invention provides for the vacuum generating device to be assigned to that side of the material web which faces away from the application medium curtain, at least to the region of incidence of the application medium on the material web.

  • Patent number: 6423181
Abstract: A gravure paper and a method of manufacturing gravure paper having a maximal roughness depth of approximately 1.40 &mgr;m. The method utilizes a paper machine including a forming system, a first press section, and a drying section, and includes producing a stock suspension including a stock having a freeness of greater than or equal to approximately 50 ml CSF, forming an unfinished fibrous material web from the stock suspension, and applying at least one of a pigment and a filler slurry to the unfinished fibrous material web between a beginning of the forming system and a position at which the dry matter content of the unfinished fibrous material web is approximately ≦90%.

  • Publication number: 20020066404
Abstract: An apparatus is configured for applying at least one first layer of a first application medium and at least one second layer of a second application medium to a material web, either directly or indirectly. The at least one first layer and the at least one second layer each are first applied onto a moving base (either the web surface in the case of direct application or a transfer element in the case of indirect application). The apparatus includes a first curtain applicator unit having a first discharge nozzle and configured for discharging the first application medium through the first discharge nozzle in a form of a first curtain onto the moving base. The apparatus also incorporates a second curtain applicator unit which includes a second discharge nozzle and which is configured for discharging the second application medium through the second discharge nozzle in a form of a second curtain onto the moving base.

  • Patent number: 6372046
Abstract: A device designed for coating a material web with a coating medium includes a coater, a metering/smoothing device positioned downstream of the coater in the direction of feed of the material web, at a certain distance from the coater, and a support roll around which the material web is guided. Moreover, the material web is guided around the support roll only in the area of the metering/smoothing device, and it traverses essentially in a straight line between the coater and the support roll. In accordance to a first aspect of this invention, a support arrangement supports the material web in the straight web section between the coater and the support roll. In accordance to a second aspect of this invention, devices are provided which stabilize the material web in the area where the web traverses in a straight line.

  • Patent number: 6309463
Abstract: A device for direct or indirect application of a liquid or viscous coating medium onto a moving material web, specifically a paper or cardboard web, includes an applicator unit which, in the direct application method, applies the coating medium in the form of a coating layer directly onto the material web at a point of application. In the indirect application method, the coating medium is first applied onto an applicator element, for example an applicator roll, which then transfers, at the point of application, the coating medium to the material web in the form of a coating layer. In addition, a drying device for drying of the coating layer is provided downstream from the point of application, viewed in the direction of flow of the material web. In the applicator unit, a device for moistening and/or warming the material web, coating medium or the coating layer is additionally provided before the drying device, viewed in the flow direction of the material web.
