  • Publication number: 20260103580
Abstract: Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRPs) are increasingly replacing traditional materials in the automobile, aerospace, and energy sectors. Developing end-of-life processes that retain the value of both carbon fibers and the polymer matrix is essential. This study presents a strategy to upcycle pre- and post-consumer polystyrene-containing CFRPs, crosslinked with unsaturated polyesters or vinyl esters, into benzoic acid. The thermoset matrix is upgraded via biocatalysis using an engineered strain of Aspergillus nidulans, producing valuable secondary metabolites, such as (2Z,4Z,6E)-octa-2,4,6-trienoic acid. The process preserves much of the carbon fiber sizing, enabling the fibers to be remanufactured into new composite coupons with mechanical properties comparable to virgin substrates. This represents the first system to reclaim significant value from both the fiber and polymer matrix of CFRPs.

  • Publication number: 20250314360
Abstract: A lighting system uses an existing track receiver for holding standard panel trim to hold an elongate linear light. The elongate linear light provides illumination and conceals the gap between panels. The light includes a snap track with arcuate portions that contact the panels. Between the arcuate portions is a trough portion that receives and retains an elongate luminaire strip. The trough portion has a narrow opening formed from the opposite ends of the arcuate portions which is complementary to side profile surfaces on the luminaire. The luminaire is retained only by the narrow opening engaging with the side profile surfaces. A snap-in cover conceals the terminal end of the snap track.

  • Publication number: 20250316346
Abstract: In an example method, a computer system accesses first data representing a plurality of characteristics of test subjects, and second data representing a plurality of candidate propensity score models that can be used for estimating an effectiveness of a treatment. The system selects a set of propensity score models by sequentially evaluating at least some of the candidate propensity score models until one or more stop criteria are satisfied. The effectiveness of the treatment can be estimated by utilizing the selected set of propensity score models. Further, the system stores a data structure representing the set of propensity score models, and outputs the data structure.
