  • Publication number: 20240180580
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are operable to track usage of a surgical instrument and modify the performance of the surgical instrument based on the prior usage of the surgical instrument. Some surgical instruments are designed to have a limited service life beginning at their first use, or a limit to their overall usage in order to ensure safe use of the sensitive instruments. However, a lack of ability to track usage characteristics when the instrument is separated from an external power supply allows for user abuse and avoidance of such safety mechanisms. Adding a battery or capacitor to the instrument may allow for an ability to track usage when the instrument is separated from an external power supply. Implementing special user prompts, device use ratios, and device use half-life upon powering down of an instrument may additionally be used to prevent circumvention of safety features.

  • Patent number: 11986617
Abstract: A connector for medical fluid vessels includes a fluid-seal fitting such as a male plug defining a lumen and mating with a cooperating connector, a mechanical fastener such as a screw thread for mating with the cooperating connector, and an outer housing positioned around the plug to form an annular space. Optionally, a cap can be provided with a fluid-seal fitting such as a male plug for mating with the lumen of the connector. The connector includes one or more vent openings for drainage and air-drying of any residual fluid in the annular space when capped, as well as for breaking a vacuum to prevent fluid backflow and thus ensure more accurate dosing. In some embodiments, the vent openings are provided in the outer housing. And in some embodiments, the vent openings are provided in the cap.

  • Publication number: 20240071593
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that provide smart alerts to users, e.g., alerts to users about diabetic states that are only provided when it makes sense to do so, e.g., when the system can predict or estimate that the user is not already cognitively aware of their current condition, e.g., particularly where the current condition is a diabetic state warranting attention. In this way, the alert or alarm is personalized and made particularly effective for that user. Such systems and methods still alert the user when action is necessary, e.g., a bolus or temporary basal rate change, or provide a response to a missed bolus or a need for correction, but do not alert when action is unnecessary, e.g., if the user is already estimated or predicted to be cognitively aware of the diabetic state warranting attention, or if corrective action was already taken.

  • Patent number: 10124623
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for selecting a finish for applying to an item. The apparatus includes a flexible translucent sheet, and at least one semi-translucent color applied to the translucent sheet such that a surface to which the translucent sheet is attached is visible through the translucent sheet and the semi-translucent color. The system includes the apparatus and a protective laminate surface covering the at least one semi-translucent color. The method includes providing a plurality of translucent sheets each having at least one semi-translucent color, examining an item to determine the type of finish of the item, selecting a flexible translucent sheet according to the finish of the item, conforming and affixing the selected translucent sheet to the surface of the item, and viewing the surface of the item through the selected translucent sheet.

  • Publication number: 20140085331
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and program product for selecting at least a portion of an image, the selected portion comprising a surface of an item within the image, displaying a semi-transparent overlay over the selected portion of the image, the semi-transparent overlay representing a surface finish, and mathematically blending a plurality of pixels of the semi-transparent overlay with a plurality of pixels of the selected portion such that one or more characteristics of the surface are visible through the semi-transparent overlay.
