  • Publication number: 20050198221
Abstract: A computer-readable portable media device is used for transferring network settings for an ad hoc wireless network to simply the task of configuring devices for the ad hoc wireless network. A configuration program on an initiating computer assists a user in creating the network settings, including a security key, and incorporates the network settings in an XML file and writes the file in to the portable media device. The portable media device is then attached to a second device that is to join the ad hoc wireless network. The second device is automatically configured using the network settings on the portable media device for joining the ad hoc wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20050198233
Abstract: A computer-readable portable media device is used for transferring network settings and other configuration data to a thin client network device to simply the task of configuring the thin client device for network connectivity and other functions. A configuration program on a personal computer assists a user in creating configuration data, including network settings, for the thin client device, generates an XML file containing the configuration data, and writes the XML file in to the portable media device. The portable media device is then attached to the thin client device. The thin client device detects the portable media device and automatically loads the configuration data from the XML file.

  • Publication number: 20050149204
Abstract: A portable computer-readable media device and method of use enable automatic configuration of a computing device, such as a conventional network device or a thin client device, for operation in a network. Configuration information, including network settings and security information, is incorporated in an XML file written to the portable media device while it is installed in a first device. This configuration is then automatically transferred to a second device by installing the portable media device in the second device. The second device then writes device information, incorporated in an XML file, to the portable media device, to be uploaded to the first device.

  • Publication number: 20050149757
Abstract: Secure network access is provided by connecting a secure network provisioning device to a security authority, acquiring one or more network profiles, configuring one or more network interfaces of the secure network provisioning device with data corresponding to attributes of the acquired network profiles, switching the secure network provisioning device from an acquisition mode to a gateway mode, and connecting the secure network provisioning device to a client device.

  • Publication number: 20050149626
Abstract: An Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) schema is used to generate configuration settings files. A wireless configuration XML schema defines an XML file for configuring wireless network settings on a wireless device. A wide area network (WAN) configuration schema defines an XML file for configuring a WAN device. A local area network (LAN) configuration schema defines an XML file for configuring a LAN device. A broadband modem configuration schema defines an XML file for configuring a broadband modem device. A device configuration schema defines an XML file for reporting the configuration of a device.

  • Publication number: 20050081111
Abstract: A software tool and method are provided which allow an unsophisticated user to easily determine or identify problems in a networked computer system. The software tool comprises a diagnostic component adapted to determine at least one attribute associated with the computer system, and a user interface component adapted to launch the diagnostic component and to render the attribute to a user. The diagnostic component may obtain first information related to a local host computer, and selectively perform one or more tests associated with the local host computer according to the first information. The diagnostic component then determines the attribute according to the first information and/or the test results. A self-healing networked computer system is also disclosed, comprising the diagnostic component and a remedial object adapted to perform one or more remedial actions according to the attribute.
