Abstract: A battery paste additive, and process for making the same comprising micronized seed crystals of tetra basic lead sulfate, is added to battery paste and results in accelerated curing time and other improvements in battery performance. The battery paste additive may be used to produce positive or negative battery plates and may be use with conventional mixing, pasting and curing processes and equipment.

Abstract: Shelf stable liquid overbased calcium carboxylates are prepared by reacting a calcium base with a monocarboxylic acid, and carbonating in the presence of a promoter mixture with a phenol and an alcohol under controlled temperature conditions, to produce shelf stable liquids. Mixed metal stabilizer compositions are prepared by blending the stable liquid calcium carboxylate with a metal carboxylate of zinc, cadmium or tin. The mixed metal carboxylates are also shelf stable and are used for stabilizing halogen-containing polymers to provide heat stability, clarity and improved plate out properties.

Abstract: A light colored basic alkali or alkaline earth metal organic salt is obtained by the reaction of a basic metal compound, an alkyl phenol and/or a carboxylic acid, carbon dioxide, and thereafter post-treating the reaction product with an organic phosphite. Alkaline earth metal salts of phenols and carboxylic acids include barium or calcium. Organic phosphites include trialkyl or dialkyl phosphites such as triisodecyl phosphite or diisooctyl phosphite.

Abstract: A light colored basic alkali or alkaline earth metal organic salt is obtained by the reaction of a basic metal compound, an alkyl phenol and/or a carboxylic acid, carbon dioxide, and thereafter post-treating the reaction product with a C.sub.7 -C.sub.17 alkyl glycidyl ester such as glycidyl neodecanoate.
