  • Publication number: 20040044481
Abstract: The present teachings describe methods for matching a query peptide to a database of known peptides based on a mass analysis approach. The methods described herein facilitate rapid, sensitive, and selective identification of an unknown query peptide and provide the ability to develop applications which perform substantially automated high throughput protein identification. The methods described herein also allow for mass spectrometry data for a query peptide to be categorized and weighted according to its quality. Furthermore, the methods described herein provide robust identification of modified query proteins by either anticipating modifications or adjusting for modified peptide masses.

  • Patent number: 5564000
Abstract: A method of viewing an object by imparting a continuous, steady, cyclic motion to the object which keeps the orientation of the object substantially the same. The object can be a real 3-D object or can be an abstract object such as those used in 3-D computer graphics. Real objects viewed in an apparatus which includes a support, a viewpoint, and a mechanism for imparting a relative wobble between the support and the viewpoint to create a wobbling image of the object. In one embodiment, the support is caused to wobble and the viewpoint is substantially stationary, and in another embodiment the support is substantially stationary and the image at the viewpoint is caused to wobble. A computer implemented process for viewing the object includes the steps of developing, within a computer system, a description of a 3-D object, specifying a wobble procedure, and displaying an animated representation of the object on a visual display as determined by the wobble procedure.

  • Patent number: 4453715
Abstract: An oblique twistable 3-dimensional puzzle consists of an assemblage of parts where the organization of these parts is based on a guiding polyhedron which is an imagined oblique polyhedron. The guiding polyhedron is subdivided into pieces, with one center piece, and one piece for each face, edge, and vertex of said guiding polyhedron. The parts of said assemblage can be arranged so that for each part of said assemblage there is a corresponding piece of said subdivided guiding polyhedron and vice versa, and when said parts are so arranged they give the appearance of a single subdivided solid figure. The parts of said assemblage are held to one another by means pivotally connecting the face parts to the center part, and extensions of the edge and vertex parts with matching channels in the center, face, and edge parts. The parts corresponding to a face of said guiding polyhedron may be rotated as a block with respect to the other parts by 360.degree..
