Patent number: 8268223Abstract: A form and process for casting concrete blocks, each having at least one side textured. The blocks are cast in cavities which have a resilient insert on at least one side for imparting texture to the blocks. After the cast blocks are cured, the form is inverted and placed on a support surface. At least the side having the resilient insert is moved laterally away from the block and the form is lifted to leave the block on the support surface. The textured side can release from the form despite deep grooves and crevices simulating natural stones.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2010Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventor: Benjamin R. Manthei

Patent number: 6997427Abstract: A form for casting concrete columns which simulate a stack of stone blocks. The form includes first and second side sections, each including two side panels. The side sections are releasably connected together to form a rectangular frame which has closed and open positions. The frame and a base on which the frame rests supports a column side insert. The column side insert has a central opening in which a column is cast. The column side insert imparts a desired appearance to the exterior sides of the cast column. After a column is cast, the side sections are moved to an open position and the column side insert is separated from the column.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2003Date of Patent: February 14, 2006Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventor: Benjamin R. Patent number: 6955015Abstract: A wall is constructed from precast concrete blocks stacked in tiers in which adjacent blocks are secured together to increase the strength of the wall. Anchors are embedded in the tops of at least some of the blocks. The ends of the blocks have vertical grooves which form a vertical opening when the ends of two blocks abut. The blocks in the tiers are offset so that the openings between blocks in one tier are positioned above the anchors on the blocks on the adjacent lower tier. The blocks in each tier are secured together by a tensioned cable extending through aligned passages in the blocks. Locking members are placed in the openings to secure the ends of the abutting blocks to an anchor in an adjacent lower block.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2003Date of Patent: October 18, 2005Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventor: Benjamin R. Patent number: 6854702Abstract: A form for manufacturing concrete blocks for constructing freestanding walls. The form includes a base and four side panels which are mounted on the base to pivot between a first position for casting a block and a second position for removing a cast block from the form. An insert is secured to the base for forming one end surface on the block and inserts are attached to the side panels for forming sides, top and bottom surfaces of the block. The inserts which form exposed sides of the block are textured to simulate natural stone. The inserts which form the top and bottom of the blocks form an interlocking connection which prevents stacked blocks from moving in a horizontal plane. Optionally, inserts used to form the top surface of blocks which will define the top of the wall may form a trough which is sufficiently deep to receive soil and plants.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2003Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventors: Benjamin R. Manthei, James A. Manthei

Patent number: 6835343Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling large concrete retaining wall blocks and the like. The blocks are cast in a form with the front face down, a lifting loop extending from a rear face and with grooves extending in sides from a rear face to adjacent the front face. A spear hook is secured to one of two fork lift tines to extend to one side of the tine away from the other tine. The spear hook engages the lifting loop on the block for lifting the block from the form and for rolling the block into an upright position. The fork lift tines then engage the side grooves from the rear of the block for lifting and moving the blocks and for stacking the blocks to construct a retaining wall.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2001Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventors: Benjamin R. Manthei, James A. Manthei

Publication number: 20040250495Abstract: Precast concrete paver blocks are provided with interlocking edge joints so that abutting edges of adjacent paver blocks align when the blocks are installed and are maintained in alignment. At each joint, each block includes a tapered projection and a recess. When edges of two blocks are moved to abut each other, the tapered joint projection on each block enters the joint recess on the other block. The taper on the projections move the blocks to align the block surfaces. The edges of the blocks are angled or relieved below the joints to ensure a tight fit at the top of the paver blocks.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2003Publication date: December 16, 2004Applicant: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventor: Benjamin R. Patent number: 6715965Abstract: Retaining walls are formed from one or more tiers of concrete blocks. Top projections on all except the uppermost tier of blocks are received in recesses in the bottom of blocks in an adjacent upper tier. The top of the retaining wall may be finished with blocks which have a surface portion recessed below an upper edge of the face of the block for extending top soil or other material up to the block face. Alternately, the top blocks may form a drainage ditch which extends along at least a portion of the top of the retaining wall. Blocks used in tiers below the uppermost tier may have troughs suitable for filling with soil and plants. The exposed faces of the blocks are textured and, optionally, may be colored to simulate the appearance of stone or rocks.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2001Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventors: Benjamin R. Manthei, James A. Manthei

Patent number: 6679656Abstract: A connection for securing a geogrid fabric to between two tiers of concrete blocks which are stacked to form an earth retaining wall. A groove is formed in the top of each block in the lower tier to extend across the width of each block substantially parallel to the face of the block. The fabric is positioned to extend from the rear of the block over the groove and a first rod is positioned in the groove over the fabric. The fabric is folded to wrap around the first rod to extend past the groove towards the rear of the block and a second rod is positioned in the groove over the fabric to the rear of the first rod. When an upper tier of blocks is stacked on the lower tier, the rods and fabric are locked into the groove in the lower blocks.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2002Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Redi-Rock International, LLCInventor: Benjamin R.
