  • Patent number: 11662391
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for dynamic adjustments to battery parameters using battery metrics. The device may be configured to determine a first value indicative of a battery voltage output during a first time interval, determine a second value indicative of a temperature during the first time interval, and determine a first acceleration factor for the battery during the first time interval based at least in part on the first value and the second value. The device may determine an adjusted number of charge cycles completed during the first time interval using the first acceleration factor, determine a total adjusted number of charge cycles of the battery, determine that the total adjusted number of charge cycles is equal to or greater than a first threshold, and cause the first maximum output voltage value to be reduced.

  • Patent number: 11451068
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for battery-specific adjustments to maximum battery voltage. In one embodiment, an example device may include a battery, at least one memory that stores computer-executable instructions, and at least one processor. The device may be configured to determine a first value indicative of a first length of time the battery was at a first voltage and a first temperature, determine a second value indicative of a second length of time the battery was at a second voltage and a second temperature, determine that a sum of the first value and the second value satisfies a first threshold, and cause a maximum output voltage value to be reduced from a first maximum output voltage value to a second maximum output voltage value.

  • Patent number: 11119142
Abstract: A device may utilize a cable that includes connectors and conductors to transfer signals, electrical power, or both. Some cable failures result in an inability to transfer signals. Other failures may result from different cables being used at different times, resulting in a mismatch in which the cable is rated to transfer less power than what could otherwise be delivered by the power source. Parameters, such as cable impedance, transmitter gain, signal conditioning, and so forth that are associated with use of the cable are monitored at different times. If the values of these parameters from one time to another exceed a threshold value, a fault in the cable is determined. A notification about the impending or actual failure of the cable may be presented, and a suitable cable may be recommended for purchase. For example, a hyperlink may be provided to allow for purchase of the suitable cable.

  • Patent number: 10944271
Abstract: A first device, such as a charger, includes electrical contacts to supply power to a second device, such as a wearable device. The first device includes a detection circuit that measures a sense voltage proportional to an effective resistance, which includes resistances of the contacts, an internal resistance of the second device, and any contaminants between the contacts. When the sense voltage is within a range, the detection circuit determines the second device is compatible and correctly oriented and determines there are insufficient contaminants to alter the effective resistance. The first device de-energizes the contacts while the sense voltage is outside of a voltage range and provides a power supply to one or more of the contacts when the sense voltage is within the voltage range. In some aspects, the detection circuit may delay the power supply for a period of time to avoid false detection events.

  • Patent number: 10804717
Abstract: A resettable battery input control apparatus includes disconnect circuitry that allows for a battery or other power source to be disconnected from a load in an electronic device. A processor, such as a power management integrated circuit, may assess operating data indicative of operation of the electronic device. If the processor determines a fault condition, the disconnect circuitry is activated. In the event that the processor itself fails, the disconnect circuitry will fail safe and disconnect the battery from the load. Once disconnected, the battery remains disconnected until external power is applied. In one implementation the disconnect circuitry may comprise a field-effect transistor acting as a low-side switch that operates to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery from the load.

  • Patent number: 10671136
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for detecting and recovering from faults in computing devices. The faults being detected may consume amounts of power within normal consumption parameters of the device, such as under upper-current protection limits of a power adapter. The power adapter may include components which prevent power from being supplied to the device if the current drawn by the device is not periodically reduced to less than a threshold amount of current. The device may include logic which causes the device to periodically reduce the current drawn from the power adapter to less than the threshold amount of current to reset a timer of the components of the power adapter. Thus, the device may periodically reduce the current drawn when the device is operating normally, but fail to reduce the current drawn when experiencing a fault, which results in the power adapter shutting off power to the faulted device.

  • Patent number: 10198336
Abstract: An example device in accordance with an aspect of the present disclosure includes a plurality of pins coupled to a controller to receive a plurality of module statuses corresponding to slot locations of the enclosure at various proximity tiers relative to the module. The controller is to check a first pin of the plurality of pins to identify whether a first proximity tier relative to the module is occupied, regardless of a slot location of the module in the enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20180123642
Abstract: An example device in accordance with an aspect of the present disclosure includes a direct current (DC) bias source coupled to a transmitter connector of a transmitter. The DC bias source is to apply, onto the transmission line, a DC bias signal isolatable from the transmission protocol by the receiver based on the receiver separating the DC bias signal from the transmission protocol without compromising the transmission protocol.

  • Publication number: 20180120890
Abstract: In various examples, a system comprises a computing device comprising a transmitter coupled to a high frequency serial communication interface. The transmitter may transmit a signal to another computing device via the high frequency communication interface. The system comprises a processor coupled to the high frequency serial communication interface. The processor may: generate a lower frequency protocol signal, a value of the lower frequency protocol signal to cause the another computing device to perform a management operation, and transmit the lower frequency protocol signal on the high frequency serial communication interface.
