Publication number: 20240281040Abstract: An apparatus allows a device to open from a closed configuration. The device comprises a first frame comprising a first magnet assembly, and a second frame rotatably coupled to the first frame. The apparatus comprises a second magnet assembly rotatably coupled to the second frame and configured to attract the first magnet assembly when the two frames and are in the closed configuration. A biasing member biases the second magnet assembly for rotation in an open direction. An actuator comprises first and second arms extending from an elongated base toward first and second cams that are coupled to the second magnet assembly. Translation of the elongated base toward the second magnet assembly causes the arms to rotate the cams, thereby causing rotation of the second magnet assembly in the open direction to reduce a magnetic force between the first magnet assembly and the second magnet assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2023Publication date: August 22, 2024Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Daniel Clark PARK, Nicholas Benjamin WENDT, Brett Andrew TOMKY, Karsten AAGAARD, Denys V. Patent number: 10754392Abstract: A hinge includes a shaft, a hinge leaf engaged with the shaft, a band clamped around the shaft for rotation about the shaft and pivotal movement relative to the hinge leaf, and a clutch disposed between the band and the shaft. The clutch includes a collar disposed between the shaft and the band. The clutch is configured to lock and unlock the collar to the shaft. Rotation of the band about the shaft in a first direction locks the collar to the shaft for frictional movement of the band about the shaft at a first resistance level. Rotation of the band about the shaft in a second direction unlocks the collar from the shaft for frictional movement of the band about the shaft at a second resistance level lower than the first resistance level.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2017Date of Patent: August 25, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventor: Nicholas Benjamin Wendt

Patent number: 10606321Abstract: A hinge includes a frame, an arm, a torque element, and a link. The frame and arm are rotatably connected about a first lateral axis. The torque element is displaced from the first lateral axis in a longitudinal direction perpendicular to the first lateral axis, and the torque element being rotatable about a second lateral axis. The link is connected to the arm and the torque element such that rotation of the arm about the first lateral axis translates the torque element in the longitudinal direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2017Date of Patent: March 31, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventor: Nicholas Benjamin Wendt

Patent number: 10545540Abstract: A device for controlling movement of a support includes a frame, an arm, a torque element, and a link. The arm is rotatably connected to the frame about a lateral axis. The torque element is displaced from the lateral axis in a longitudinal direction perpendicular to the lateral axis. At least part of the torque element is rotatable about a longitudinal axis. The link is connected to the arm and the torque element such that rotation of the arm about the lateral axis translates at least part of the torque element in the longitudinal direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2017Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventor: Nicholas Benjamin Wendt

Publication number: 20070141267Abstract: The present invention relates to a 2-part adhesive formulation comprising, in the first part, water, a surfactant, and a protected alkylborane complex, and an acrylic monomer and a trialkylborane-displacing initiator in the second part. The formulation can be applied to a low surface energy substrate to make an effective adhesive without the aid of any surface pretreatment. The adhesive formulation can also be prepared by combining the complex with a mixture of the water, the surfactant, the monomer, as well as other additives and thixotropes, and applying the combination to the low surface energy substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Inventors: Mark Sonnenschein, Benjamin Wendt
